More than Conquerors
More than Conquerors
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
These things being the made an heir with Christ, forgiveness even though we did not deserve it, salvation that is so sure, it was as sure today as it was before time began. Paul talks in rhetorical questions sometimes, and this is one. We can look at all these things and know that God is for us. Since that is the case, who can even come close to standing against?
I also love how he points out that God was willing to give His only son for you and I, He will give us what we need and not hold back. God is by nature a giving God.
Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Now we get to look around and ask the question knowing our salvation is sure. Since God is the only one who is holy, who can bring a charge against us as believers and say that we are not holy? The only one would be God, but He justified us through Christ on the cross.
We have talked about condemnation before, but no one can condemn you to hell. No one can say that you have eternal punishment because of Jesus
And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
That word judge also means to condemn, and so Jesus does not condemn, but rather He is at the right hand of God interceding for us . We have both the Holy Spirit and Jesus interceding for us before God
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
Nothing can separate us from Jesus. Nothing can take away our salvation. We can run to Christ here in these moments because He saved us from them.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Paul is referencing Psalm 44:22 in the previous verse, and what he is trying to point out is that trials are not new. Dangers are not new to the Christians. In light of this, what feels like a losing battle we can look and see that we are more the conquerors because of Christ.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
