Class two: God’s predetermined plan: to understand God’s character, nature so we can look at His predetermined plan made with foreknowledge to redeem sinful man through the Redeemer Jesus Christ

Introduction:

In the beginning God created (Gen1:1)
Genesis 1:1 NASB95
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
All things came into being through Him (Jn1:1-3)
John 1:1–3 NASB95
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
In Him all things were made (Heb1:1-3)
Hebrews 1:1–3 NASB95
1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Question: Is there anything created that God did not create? Do you believe that creation was completed in six days (Gen1:31-2:2)?
Question: Why do you believe that?

Aim:

To look at and understand God, creator of all things (Col1:16)
Bible theme, purpose (God’s eternal purpose) main focus is the man, the creation.

Outline:

The invisible created (the angelic)
Dominions and power (Eph1:21, 6:12)
Ephesians 1:21 NASB95
21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
and
Ephesians 6:12 NASB95
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Yes, even the rebellious, that are/were wicked (2Pt2:4; Jude6)
2 Peter 2:4 NASB95
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment;
Jude 6 NASB95
6 And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,
Faithful angels (Heb1:14; Mt18:10)
Hebrews 1:14 NASB95
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?
The visible created (earth/humanity)
Heavens and earth (re: Gen1:1-25; Jn1:1-3; Isa45:18-19; Ps19:1)
Isaiah 45:18–19 NASB95
18 For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited), “I am the Lord, and there is none else. 19 “I have not spoken in secret, In some dark land; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in a waste place’; I, the Lord, speak righteousness, Declaring things that are upright.
Man (Gen1:26-27, 2:15, 20-23)
turn to (Heb2:13-18) = gives us reason why focus is on man.
Hebrews 2:13–18 NASB95
13 And again, “I will put My trust in Him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.” 14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16 For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. 17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
Then turn to and read (Ps8)
Man created to be sanctified, preserved, complete, blameless (ref: 1The5:23)
The material (body of Christ)
There is unity (1Cor12)
We are a temple, house (2Cor5:1-2; 1Cor6:19-20)
2 Corinthians 5:1–2 NASB95
1 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven,
and then
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 NASB95
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
We are a living sacrifice (Rom12:1)
As the body we wait for our redemption of the body (re: Rom8:23; 1Cor15)
Romans 8:23 NASB95
23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.
Creator of Soul and Spirit (the immaterial;non physical)
Our soul; first better define this term:
Complete individual (Eze18:20)
Ezekiel 18:20 NASB95
20 “The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.
The physical life (Gen1:30; Mt16:25-26)
Matthew 16:25–26 NASB95
25 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
The eternal (Mt10:28; Heb4:12)
Matthew 10:28 NASB95
28 “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Now to go to the soul (Heb4:12; 1Cor15:45; Mt10:28)
Hebrews 4:12 NASB95
12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
and
1 Corinthians 15:45 NASB95
45 So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
The Spirit (1Cor2:11; 1pt3:19-20)
1 Corinthians 2:11 NASB95
11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.
man has a spirit within him
The spirit does not die with the flesh, the spirit lives on (2Cor5:1-10; also consider 2Cor12:2-4)
ref to 2Cor5:1-10: We have an earthly tent, a building from God, we groan: one day we will be abscent from the body and be with the Lord when we walk by faith.
then look at
2 Corinthians 12:2–4 NASB95
2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a man was caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I know how such a man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows— 4 was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak.
Man and his character (Gen1:27, 2:7)
Made in God’s image (Holy, without sin; innocent, intelligent, volition (making choices()
Yet man rebelled (Gen2:16-17, 3:1-7)
From His character, his rebellion to his circumstance (Gen3:16-19, 22-24)

Conclusion:

God created all things, all things were perfect
God gave all things so to have fellowship with His creation
God’s creation, man is not just earthly, but heavenly, to be redeemed, body, soul and spirit!
