A Plea For Praise (Psalms 107:10-16)

This passage can pertain to lost or saved people. Talks of the bonds of rejection and rebellion.

Their Trouble (10-12)

The Sitting (sit in darkness/shadow of death)
Psalm 1:1 “Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”
You get comfortable with sin the more you are around it.
The Shackles (bound in affliction and iron)
Afflicted refers to a wretched state
The Source (rebelling the words of God/despised the counsel of God)
Proverbs 1:30–32 “They would none of my counsel: They despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, And the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.”
The Sum (they fell down in darkness)
Spec Ops training of being bound and in total darkness losing their mind.
They were in total darkness with no one to help.
Because they rebelled and rejected God’s word and his counsel, they began to sit in darkness and it caused them to be shackled in depravity.

Their Transferring (13-14)

Their Cry (They Cried)
“cried” has the idea of shrieking from anguish or danger
They knew their doom and despair, and that the only person to help was the LORD.
His Coming (He Saved)
Man’s work is to cry, God’s work is to save. God is in the saving business! He doesn’t want punishment for anyone! Anyone that cries to the Lord can be saved!
His Carrying (brought them out)
1 Peter 2:9–10 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
The Lord went into the prison of darkness and death and carried them out!
His Crushing (brake their bands in sunder)
Brake = to tear off, to be torn away from, to separate
in sunder = into pieces, you can’t tell what they were!
The chains and bonds of sin are gone!

Their Thanksgiving (15-16)

The Plea
The Praise
The Person
The Power
The Pulverizing
Broken Brass - strong, longevity, long lasting
Severed Iron - Bareness, slavery, strength, captivity, moral deterioration.
Jeremiah 6:26–28 “O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us. I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way. They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.”
From Corrupt to Cleansed
From Bound to Beloved
From Jailed to Justified
From Sentenced to Saved
OH THAT MEN WOULD PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS SAVING GRACE!!!!
