Will You Find Him?

“We must come to good works by Faith and not to Faith by good works.”
James 2:18–19 ESV
18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

1. What are they whispering?
The common people are beginning to believe Jesus is Messiah
Is He Messiah?
Do our leaders know and are they hiding it? (Creating suspicion)
Where is he from? (the myth was that Messiah would appear suddenly and deliver them from the Romans)
How does he know so much? (The thought him untrained) How does the God of everything not know the message he gave to the prophets and writers?
2. Why did they (rulers) hate Jesus?
Jesus didn’t fit their expectations
He healed on the Sabbath
John 5:1–16 ESV
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. 3 In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. 5 One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath. 10 So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.” 11 But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’ ” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. 16 And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.
He taught with authority, he was bold.
They could not touch Jesus to take him. (supernaturally held back)
3. Why did Jesus have to go away?
Physical restriction (hypothetical, logical)
1 Corinthians 13:12 ESV
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
Jesus had to leave for the Holy Spirit to come (again physical versus spiritual)
To prepare a place
To intercede with the Father for the sinner
4. Where was Jesus going?
Heaven/Paradise
Luke 23:43 ESV
43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
5. Why could they (Pharisees, Chief Priests, High Priest) not find him?
They were not of God
They wanted fame and fortune
They were not searching in the right places
They were of the devil
6. Why didn’t they know where Jesus was going?
They were not of God
They wanted fame and fortune
They were not searching in the right places
They were of the devil
Will you seek Jesus?
Will you find him?
Will you go where Jesus is going?
