INTORDUCTION:

The Devil is the greatest liar.

SCRIPTURE:

Genesis 3:1-13.

#1 That God’s Word Is Not True

Genesis 3:1 “1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?””

Did God really say that? Did God really say that you cannot eat from any tree of the garden? No!

Genesis 1:29 “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;”

Genesis 2:16–17 “… “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.””

He is more “crafty” than any beast of the field (3:1)…

Lions use their speed…

Snakes use their camouflage…

The Devil uses His lies

He’s not crafty as in making school projects for science class… He’s crafty as in drawing people away from God at the uttermost degree.

He undermines/corrupts/twists the Word of God… “It cannot be trusted”

#2 That People Will Not Die When They Sin

Genesis 3:4 “4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die!”

Did God really say that? Did God really say you that if you eat from this tree you WILL NOT DIE? No!

Genesis 2:16–17 “… “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.””

She inclined her ear to someone or something that was.. not.. God.

There is a punishment for sin.

#3 That Individuals Can Save Themselves

Genesis 3:5 “5 “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.””

Did God really say that? Did God really say that if you eat from this tree you will BE LIKE HIM? No!

When you sin you are called by Paul a:

Son of disobedience

YOU CANNOT SAVE YOURSELF!!

We may have pamphlets and articles that read: “What must “I” do to be saved?”

Newsflash: NOTHING!! You are not LIKE God, you are NOT God, you are evil and filled with sin as every accountable person on this earth is… but redemption can be found in the blood of the LAMB who was slain for the world!

You cannot save yourself from sin! … but what you CAN do is accept that glorious offer of redemption. How?

Believing in Jesus the Son of God

Repenting of the sins that Him to willingly die on Calvary.

Confessing He is Lord over the world and over your life

And be Baptized… the point at which salvation is made whole… where sins are forgiven… where you are added to the Church… and are stamped with the seal of the Spirit.

This is how you accept the redemption of Christ… not by earning it, but by trusting & obeying with a glad heart.
