God’s call of preachers

It is not dependent upon background

Amos 7:14–15 NKJV

Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah: “I was no prophet, Nor was I a son of a prophet, But I was a sheepbreeder And a tender of sycamore fruit. Then the Lord took me as I followed the flock, And the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’

It is not dependent upon ability

Exodus 4:10–12 NKJV

Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” So the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.”

It is not dependent upon willingness

Exodus 4:13 NKJV

But he said, “O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.”

It is a matter of God’s sovereign choice

Jeremiah 1:4–5 NKJV

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

God’s commissioning of preachers

They are commissioned to declare God’s word

Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

They are to declare God’s word without fear

Jeremiah 1:7–8 NKJV

God’s constraint upon preachers

1 Corinthians 9:16 NKJV

For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!

God’s confirmation of his call upon preachers
