Apostels creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,

is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic** church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Living your Best Life

Today we are Going to discuss the beatitudes. These are found in

Mathew 5:1-11

They read

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.

The Beatitudes

He said:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me...........

You see this is part of the sermon on the mount. A sermon delivered by Jesus to his disciples and a large crowd outlining the fundamental principals of christian ethics and morality. The word Beatitude is from the Latin word “Beatus” which means blessed or happy. The Beatitudes are considered a guide to finding true happiness and spiritual well being.

lets break a couple down.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Charles Spurgeon says

The saints prove their conversion by their perseverance, and that perseverance comes from a continual supply of divine grace to their souls. The Candle, Volume 27, Sermon #1594 - Matthew 5:15, 16

Charles Spurgeon

Again showing us how merciful God is. Next we look at

Blessed are those who morn, for they will be comforted.

Jesus comes to bestow gladness instead of morning. he offers praise instead of despair. You see Jesus came to save us. Charles Wesley was quoted as saying

He speaks, and listen to his voice

New life the dead receive

The mournful, broken hearts rejoice

The humble and poor believe

do you see just by breaking down the first of the 2 beatitudes how a pattern is forming? Jesus is hear for us. from the beginning to the end. and at the end if we work hard at our faith and our relationship with Jesus christ we will receive his blessing of heaven. We as humans are so afraid of failure we sometimes give up. But God is so full of grace we cannot fail to the point of no forgiveness. Jesus will offer us grace IF we ask for it. you see we do not have enough time to do a full study on the beatitudes but I want us to realize they are here to give us hope that even as we fall in our relationship Jesus he is merciful. We may have a bible study on the sermon on the mount some time or even a sermon series on the beatitudes in the future. I used this scripture today to show how Mathews perspective happiness and well-being, bringing out the qualities such as humility, meekness, righteousness, mercy, and peace. They encourage us to live a life of Love, compassion, and pursuit of God’s righteousness rather than worldly success or material wealth. This also offers hope to those who may be suffering or facing adversity, showing that even in challenging times, there is the promise of comfort, reward, and ultimately the kingdom of heaven. These scriptures have had a profound influence on christian ethics and have been the subject of many theological debates. The are the central part of Jesus’s moral teaching and a source of inspiration and guidance for Christians in our daily lives. So you see we are never left out to dry when it comes to what we are to do in our daily lives. In our road map for life this is just another place we can turn for guidance. As we look at the beatitudes we find guidance for every situation in life we find ourselves in. But as we have talked if we live by Gods charge on our life to live by love. We will be

Living Our Best Life.

AMEN
