Humble Yourself

They sit on Moses’ Seat
1 Thessalonians 2:13 “And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.”
And THEN don’t be like them
Matthew 23:3 “so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice.”
Humble yourself to hear the warnings
Matthew 23:11–12 “The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

Woe #1 - Closing The Kingdom Door

“It’s not our place to judge someone’s salvation” - Yes it is.
They shut the doors by their legalism; they set unnecessary obstacles & sowed seeds of doubt
By their mindset, by their actions, even if not explicitly in their teaching, they denied the sufficiency of Christ
Many Pharisees weren’t even saved themselves

Woe #2 - Twice the child of Hell

“What you win people with is what you win people to.” - James White
They were seemingly more interested in winning people to Phariseeism than to God
There is no Baptist Faith; there is just the Christian Faith once delivered to the saints, with a Baptist expression, which is religion
Twice the child of Hell...
New Testament Ib: Matthew 14–28 (The Corruption of the Laity) - Chrysostom
When a disciple sees his teacher to be corrupt, he becomes even more so. He does not stop at his teacher’s corruption.
The hardest people to reach...
Matthew 3:9 “And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.”

May God humble our hearts and minds to hear these warnings; that we may lay no obstacle before the sinner than he has laid for himself; that we may truly point souls to Christ and none other.
