Philippians 2:12–13 KJV 1900
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
As we look at these two verses today we see the full scope of a believers life;
In verse 12--We see the attitude and mindset believer in Christ should have .(our part)
In verse 13 - we see the source and the connection needed to do all that God has us to do. ( God’s part)
Today I encourage you my brother and sisters to work it out by doing your and submitting to God to do His part!!
Our part is to repent, obey, reverence, honor, and submit. God park is work it out for all good.
Romans 8:28 KJV 1900
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Today we look at Bible passage of a man that put faith to action. A man who was willing to work out his own salvation; take responsibility and submit to God’s will.
Luke 19:1–10 KJV 1900
1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. 4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. 6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. 7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. 8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. 9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
This is story of salvation personified ..... this is an example of some one repenting not to earn salvation but because of salvation.
As we examine this biblical narrative:
Jesus reached out to the poor and the wealthy.
We see entered and passed through- Jericho was like an oasis in the middle of the desert. Jericho was an affluent city, full of trees, springs, and wealthy people.
Zaccheus was rich, chief tax collector, and a cheater
There was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
Tax collector worked for the Romans- he was a Jew working for the people that had the Jewish that had under the rule of their empire.
Tax collector worked off commission so they often cheated people but assessing more revenue than legally required.
Tax collector were shunned and not liked by Jews.
Zacchaeus sought to see Jesus who Jesus was.
This is the pivotal, transformative and life changing moment in Zacchaeus life. Matt 7:7-8
Matthew 7:7–8 KJV 1900
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
The problem with today’s culture is they think they know all the answers.
At one time in my life I avoided church because I though I knew as much as those church know, I though I was just as good as them.
Seeking means we realize we do have all the answer and we need help.
Zacchaeus Jesus some much that he did not care what other, there he claimed up a sycamore tree to see Jesus.
Only children claimed trees
Jesus said come to Him as little Matt 19:14
Matthew 19:14 KJV 1900
14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 18:3 KJV 1900
3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Not only was Zacchaeus seeking Jesus: Jesus was also seeking Zacchaeus . Luke 19: 5
Luke 19:5 KJV 1900
5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
The Lord seeking for those he can show Him strong through. 2 Chron 16:9
2 Chronicles 16:9 KJV 1900
9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Jesus was looking for some to abide with
John 15:7 KJV 1900
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
People murmured when they saw Jesus abiding a Zaccheus house
As we do do this work for the LORD not everyone will agree with you some will mock, criticize, complain, but do it anyway. See soul save and doing God’s will is worth it!
Luke 15:10 KJV 1900
10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
What does repenting and working out salvation looks like?
Luke 19:8 KJV 1900
8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
Ephesians 4:28 KJV 1900
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Jesus confirmation of genuine salvation and His purpose
Luke 19:9–10 KJV 1900
9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
