talk about pizza story
One day, a pizza delivery driver got fired, but couldn’t for the life of him understand why. “I didn’t speed. I never got a ticket. What did I do wrong?” he asked. The manager replied: “You never delivered any of the pizzas!”
recap, Pride, fear, lust,
All these are sins we commit or do in disobedience to God
today we talk about the things we don’t do that can shake us in our walk with christ and ultimately stunt our growth as disciples.
Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone walked in the stubbornness of his evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.”
theological term for todays topic is called sin of omission, we have sin of commission which again are the sins we commit or do in disobedience to God sin of omission are the things we don’t do that we are asked to do.
talk on this, we never think of this, but it is a great “monster” the enemy will use to stop our growth.
silent killer because we don’t think about it, so focused on the “rules” or the don’ts we do not think about the do’s
pick up our cross daily embodies things we ought not do, but also things we ought to do...
cant sit there idle because we don’t want to sin because that in itself is a sin...
Following Christ is as much about what TO do, as it’s about what NOT to do.
lets look at Matthew 25.31-46
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
talk about verse
preach about loving those around us...
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
speak on this...
not just our neighbors but enemies as well
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
preach it....
love in those around neighbors and enemies and share the good news
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
conclude with having to do the things we are commanded
blood on our hands for not sharing the gospel when we know we should have...
