The Fools Path
The Fools Path
Christian Standard Bible Psalm 1
How happy is the one who does not
walk in the advice of the wicked
or stand in the pathway with sinners
or sit in the company of mockers!
“Happy”- Blessed way of living which is in line with how God intended us to live when he created us.
“Wicked”- godless and anti-christ
“Sinners”- spiritually blind and broken
“Mockers”- prideful and treating all others with contempt (rude, unkind, undisciplined, addicted(drunk) to self, foolish, abusive, loves only what benefits self, divisive, brawler, does not listen, etc.
3 steps to becoming a fool
Walking with bad directions
“Counsel of wicked”- to live your life because others say its cool, or promise results, or say it’s whats right
( The Office- Michael ends up in a lake)
TikTok, School Friends, Social Trends, Google, Emotions/Feelings (Listen to your wicked heart), etc
Standing on shaky ground
“Pathway with Sinners” - course of conduct that we commit our lives to.
(King of the Hill game)
What begins as a bad decision (directions) becomes a model for other decisions we may make in the future.
standing means to hold our ground and build our house upon the advice/modeled after fools.
(blind building a house with the blueprints of other blind people)
When we let these things reign, we are building a house on shaky foundation:
let anger, lies, jealousy, gossip/slander, lust, addiction, pride, theft, love of self/unhealthy, cowardice/fear, disobedience to authority, etc r
Sitting in a fools prison
“sitting in the Company”- dwelling in, not only building a house but making our home in a prison.
To sit is to bind yourself/chain yourself to sin and foolishness. It’s to be married to stupidity
(like a lovesick bf/gf who forgets others exist, fool loves themselves and the fools path.)
Scripture calls us to follow only one voice, build on only on foundation, and dwell in only one house.
Christian Standard Bible Psalm 1
Instead, his delight is in the LORD’s instruction,
and he meditates on it day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams
that bears its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
“delight” - extreme satisfaction and pleasure, bringing daily internal joy no matter the external circumstances.
The Wise Man:
Delights in the Lord’s Instruction (God’s Word)
His Word is a Voice of Wisdom
His Word is a Rock (Strong Foundation)
HIs Word is A Home
Meditates in the Lord’s Instruction
Daily We Must:
Read it
Talk it
Live it
We Must:
Walk according to his word
Don’t Listen to Fools, Listen To His Word
Stand on His word
Live Like Jesus, Even When its tough
Sit In the Word
Firmly Plant our lives on His Word and Be a Light TO Others (LightHouse vs Prison)
Ultimately, The Wise Man Is a Tree
that blesses all around him (bears fruit)
stand in any circumstance (does not wither)
Makes advances for God’s Kingdom (prospers)
Big Q:
Who’s advice are you listening to? How are you living your life?
Do you know Jesus? IS you life built upon his word?
Is your life a prison or a lighthouse?
