Have You Been Baptized Into Christ Jesus?
Romans 6:4 NASB95
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
Would it surprise you to know that Christ experienced at least three baptisms during His public ministry on earth?
How many baptisms have you experienced?
The apostle Paul tells us that when we have been baptized into Christ, we should experience the power and authority to walk in newness of life!
So, have you been baptized into Christ?
I. The PROBLEM that REQUIRES it!
Romans 5:12 NASB95
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—
Romans 5:13 NASB95
for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
Romans 5:14 NASB95
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
II. The GRACE that COMPELS it!
Romans 5:20 NASB95
The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
What is Grace? It is God’s unmerited favor extended to sinners. It is God’s supernatural power for victory in your daily life for the saint!
Notice the three questions the apostle Paul asks:
Romans 6:1 NASB95
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
Romans 6:2 NASB95
May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
Romans 6:3 NASB95
Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
III. The BENEFITS that ACCOMPANY it!
Romans 6:4 NASB95
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
What were James and John asking Jesus for when they asked Him to allow them to sit at His right hand and left hand when He came into His glory?
Mark 10:37 NASB95
They said to Him, “Grant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory.”
How did Jesus respond to them?
Mark 10:38 NASB95
But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”
Why did Jesus respond this way to their request? James and John were asking for Power and Authority to be given to them.
The third baptism Jesus experienced was the baptism of suffering which was His death for our sins.
When we are baptized into Christ Jesus, one of the benefits we experience as part of the newness of life is Power and Authority!
Mark 10:38 NASB95
But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”
Notice the answer Jesus gave to James and John:
Mark 10:39 NASB95
They said to Him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized.
I believe that every person who is baptized into Christ Jesus receives newness of life!
Romans 6:5 NASB95
For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,
The ordinance or sacrament of baptism is the closest thing we have to identifying with the Cross of Christ and His baptism of suffering!
Think about it with me: When Christ came out of His death, He came out different than He went into it.
Jesus went into His baptism of suffering with brown eyes, but He came up with eyes like a flame of fire!
Jesus went into His baptism of suffering with brown hair, but He came up with hair white like pure wool and His feet were like brass and His voice was now like the voice of a trumpet and as a voice of many waters!
When Jesus went into his baptism of suffering, Satan had the keys of power and authority over humanity, but when He came up, all Power and Authority had been handed over to Him!
Your Bible says when you have become united with Christ in the likeness of His death, you shall also be united with Him in the likeness of His Resurrection Life!
These are things that will stand as Truth before the throne of God forever, so the question for us today is this, what is . . .
IV. The KNOWLEDGE that RELEASES it!
Romans 6:6 NASB95
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
Romans 6:7 NASB95
for he who has died is freed from sin.
Romans 6:12 NASB95
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
Romans 6:14 NASB95
For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
In Closing, remember that when you are immersed backwards, it identifies you being buried with Christ in His death!
And when you are raised up it identifies you with being raised in newness of resurrection life!
When you are immersed forward it identifies you with going forward into your Spirit filled, Spirit led destiny with Power and Authority the world, flesh and devil!
We have water available for you to be baptized today, will you be baptized in Christ Jesus today?
We have a robe and a towel you can use!
