Opener: Nana-nana boo-boo, You cant get me...
Need How many of you can relate to something like that when you were a child?
THEME:
Holiness: Separation from what is unclean: sanctified and consecrated.
Conversion: The act of turning to God, new birth.
According to today’s text, we were alienated because of the pride of sin. Cut off from Him. Unable to know Him or even know his will for your life.
If you’ve trusted Jesus as your savior, you probably remember in your former life when God was not even an after thought. Prayer felt useless until He made himself know to you and you surrendered your life to him.
If you haven’t trusted Christ as your Savior, you may be thinking ‘what does that mean to “know God” or “hear from him in prayer?”
Peter wanted the church in the time this was written to know
Jesus is our only way to live pure, holy, and pleasing lives.
In their fallen condition they were held captive to sin with no hope in themselves. Yet Jesus had predetermined to set them apart and give them the means to be free and pursue holiness. They could do that by avoiding sin.
Peter Would still want us to know
Jesus is our only way to live pure, holy, and pleasing lives.
In our fallen condition we are held captive to sin with no hope in ourselves. Yet Jesus had predetermined to set us apart and give us the means to be free and pursue holiness. we do that by avoiding sin.
Please stand in reverence of God’s word...
1 Peter 1:13–25 HCSB
Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy. And if you address as Father the One who judges impartially based on each one’s work, you are to conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your temporary residence. For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. He was chosen before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the times for you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. By obedience to the truth, having purified yourselves for sincere love of the brothers, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again —not of perishable seed but of imperishable—through the living and enduring word of God. For All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like a flower of the grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word that was preached as the gospel to you.

God Has Given Us the Power to Live a Holy Life. God Has Given Us the Power to Live Love Others.
God has given us the hope and power to live a holy life. v.13-21
Explanation
1 Peter 1:13 “Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
i.Through Sobriety of thought. awareness, clarity
1 Peter 1:14 “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance.”
ii. Obedience: “to surrender to, like a father.”
1 Peter 1:15–16 “But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.”
iii. Holiness, Peter was calling them to live “set a part” So that their lives would be seen by all as different.
aa. Leviticus 11:44
Leviticus 11:44 HCSB
For I am Yahweh your God, so you must consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy. You must not defile yourselves by any swarming creature that crawls on the ground.
God wants us to uphold His ways because they are not the ways this world.
By rejecting what the world accepts we are demonstrating a change in who we are.
Today, that change isn’t in eating bugs or dressing a certain ways,
its our view of sin and our desire to be free from sin
and His power to help us overcome sin;
so that all the world would see our lives and success over sin and what to know more.
Illustration:
This week I learned a lot about gangs.
Even in organized crime there are expectations to look, act and think like the organization. That is no different if you were in the military, a private christian school, or a sports team.
Argumentation
God wants us to Identify with Him in our way of thinking, our actions and yes, even how we look to the world.
The word tells us who God is, the power of His spirit helps us live that way too. But if we do not repent of our stubborn center hearts we claim by actions that we do not identify as a child of God
Transition: While setting our minds on what is good we are also to avoid what is evil.
B. Do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance.
1 Peter 1:17 “And if you address as Father the One who judges impartially based on each one’s work, you are to conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your temporary residence.”
Peter is not suggesting “if they do not fear God, He would expel them as His children and remove their inheritance as an impartial judge.”
He is saying since Jesus since the sins of the world are powerful enough that only God Himself can pay their ransom,
Don’t have a casual, nonchalant view of sin

Teens that want to toe-the-line.
Don’t ask “how far can I go before I upset Jesus?”
Ask “how will this help me be like Christ?
1 Peter 2:1 (HCSB)
So rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander.
Our freedom in Christ, the hope of our salvation came at a price. We who claim Jesus should value that price.
1 Peter 1:18–19 (HCSB)
For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold,
but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.
Argumentation
God has sent Jesus to redeem us not with gold, but with his own life, his blood was required for the penalty of sin. Not gold or silver or any other wealth of this world.
“If there were an easier way to settle up for our sins other than Jesus dying, don’t you think they would have done it that way?”

1 Corinthians 6:20 HCSB
for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.
May we never view sin as an option! May we always be reminded of the cost He paid for us!
Application
1. Set your hope completely on the Grace God has given you. Meditate often and always about how God rescued you, redeemed you and saved you from the sin of this world.
2. Know God's word and His expectations of you.
By the same token, know what God rejects and how He had to give his life up to save you from a way of life so that we do not return to it.
Transition: When we seek to submit our minds and our ways to God, He uses our surrendered lives to free others from the same emptiness we once had.
God has given us the hope and power to love others. v.22-25
Explanation
1 Peter 1:22By obedience to the truth, having purified yourselves for sincere love of the brothers, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,
We cannot love others like Christ if we are selfish.
Instead, v. 23 says our relationships should reflect our relationship with Jesus; imperishable seed.
Our relationships should NOT be earthly focused but eternally focused.
Remember, God judges impartially.
No one will say in the last Day I was friends with Pastor Aaron, He is in heaven, so can I get in?
Peter says
A. Love one another from a earnest and pure heart
i. Obedience to the truth generates pureness and sincerity of love.
HERE IS THE MINDSET GOD WANTS US TO HAVE
Matthew 22:37–40 (HCSB)
He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and most important command.
The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”
HERE IS THE ACTION HE WANTS US TO TAKE
Matthew 28:18–20 (HCSB)
Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
We can love with imperishable truth that leads to new life when we allow the enduring word to purify us.
Application
If you are trying to share Christ with people don't try to act like Christianity is close to the ways of the world.
Being set apart and a child of God is what they don’t have and what they need most.
We aren’t trying to convince people to be one foot in and one foot out.
If you have an unbelieving family member like a spouse, kid, or parent, love them to Jesus by having a honest pursuit of holiness.
The more you love God and obey Him the more you can sincerely love others.
Closing and worship team up
What does God require of you based on these passages?
If I have not trusted Christ,
God wants you to realize you are a sinner, and you can only be right in God’s eyes when you repent of our ways and trust Christ's works for salvation.
Many have tried to work by adding good deeds but its about being adopted into His family.
If you’re a Child of God,
He wants you to pursue holiness through obeying God’s word with pure and sincere motives.
He wants you to desire to look like him and surrender anything that doesn’t line up with His ways. This will allow you to fulfill your purpose of bearing fruit by planting the truth in others.
Reiteration
Vein pursuits of this world are never going to satisfy.
We will always have that feeling of emptiness again and again when we look to go back to the sins of this world.
But we have been given a gift that is eternal and also for us now. That gift is our hope of salvation.
We get to know God personally and live like Him in His power; overcoming the struggle we have had in this world.
No longer alienated from him as a sinner but one with him as a child.
