Today we celebrate a life well lived. Jerra Von was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. I never heard her complain or say a cross thing about anyone. Matter of fact, I don’t remember having a conversation with her that she didn’t sing a hynm and talk about the Lord. She loved Jesus with her whole heart, truly an inspiration. She would often quote one of her favorite scriptures...
Proverbs 3:5–6 MEV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.
Jerra Von would often talk about being read to go home. She had absolute trust in Jesus and His promises. She knew that to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord.
When we trust the Lord we surrender all of our anxieties, worries, and fears to Him.
Philippians 4:6 MEV
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with gratitude, make your requests known to God.
Jerra Von prayed because trusted the Lord. She knew that He would take care of her...
1 Peter 5:7 MEV
Cast all your care upon Him, because He cares for you.
I can’t begin to tell all the times that our family called on Jerra Von to pray and intercede for us, and we saw God move to answer those prayers.
Like Jerra Von we must know that we can trust the Lord in this life and in death to work all things together for our good. If we will commit our life, our plans, our decisions, and our activities to honoring and serving the Lord and His purposes, we can trust Him to lead us in this life and the one to come. This is how Jerra Von could ask with such confidence to take her home. I do remember her telling me that she just wanted to lay down to sleep and wake up in heaven. I believe that He answered that prayer. She trusted Jesus, and so can we. He is that Good Shepherd!
Psalm 23 MEV
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
