Introduction

o Jeremiah was a man who lived in a hedonist society. Much like the one that we live in.
Jeremiah was a sensitive but very bold man. The more times I read about him, the better that I like him.
o Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet.

God has a purpose for your life that has already been established.

Jeremiah 1:5 ESV
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
o Life does not begin at conception but is determined before that. God has established the days of your life. THE GREATEST ACT OF TERROISM IN THE UNITED STATES WAS PERPETRATED BY THE SUPREME COURT.
o Jeremiah was called to be a prophet even before his conception.
o God is in the business of calling and sanctifying. To sanctify or consecrate is to set apart.
WHEN THERE IS A NEED OR A PROBLEM WE AS PEOPLE TEND TO RELY ON A PROGRAM OR A SYSTEM TO FIX IT. EXAMPLE - GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS. WHEN GOD WANTS TO FIX OR INTERVENE HE SENDS A MAN. WHERE ARE THE MEN TODAY WHO WILL STAND FOR THE TRUTH? WHERE ARE THE MEN TODAY THAT ARE SEEKING CHRIST WITH ALL OF THEIR HEART!

God put words in Jeremiah’s mouth.

Jeremiah 1:9–10 ESV
Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”
Jeremiah 1:19 ESV
They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you.”
o Jeremiah was very direct and did not proclaim a word from God that made people happy or tickled their ear.
o The words that God put in His mouth were used to fulfill the purpose that God had. These verses show the power of the one in whom God puts His words in their mouth. THIS VERSE ILLUSTRATES THE GREAT POWER IN THE WORD THAT IS GIVEN BY GOD. PUBLIC SPEAKING FEAR. THE POWER OF THE PREACHER.
o God will deliver us from those who stand against us.
GOD SENDS A MAN AND GIVES HIM HIS WORDS.

True satisfaction cannot be found outside of Christ.

Jeremiah 2:12–13 ESV
Be appalled, O heavens, at this; be shocked, be utterly desolate, declares the Lord, for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
CISTERNS ARE FALSE RELIGIONS. WHAT ARE THE FALSE RELIGIONS OF TODAY?
o Jeremiah boldly spoke out against false prophecy. The people had turned to false religions and idols that were of no value. They cannot satisfy.
o Bold faith is needed today.
o We should have a bold witness for Christ today. Acts 4:29-31
Acts 4:29–31 ESV
And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
Jeremiah was given a message of judgement.
Jeremiah 6:1 ESV
Flee for safety, O people of Benjamin, from the midst of Jerusalem! Blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise a signal on Beth-haccherem, for disaster looms out of the north, and great destruction.
o Jeremiah was given a message to warn Judah of the judgement that was coming.
o The invasion of Babylon was upon them.
o The message was one to repentance to turn away from their false Gods and to turn back to the one true God.
o If you are not a believer, you are one breath away from facing the judgement of God.
There is a restoration and hope for everyone.
Jeremiah 29:10–14 ESV
“For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.
SEEKING THE LORD - NOT THE PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE BUT THE LORD WHO HAS THE PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE.
Jesus Christ is our living hope. 1 Peter 1:3-9
1 Peter 1:3–9 ESV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
o God has a purpose for your life that is for your benefit.
