The Posture in Prayer
The Posture in Prayer
NOUN: A particular approach or attitude.
"trade unions adopted a more militant posture in wage negotiations"
VERB: behave in a way that is intended to impress or mislead.
"a billionaire posturing as a hero of the working class"
Therefore Posture in Prayer speaks to our behaviour or attitude we display as we approach God in prayer!
An understanding of who we are praying to should determine our POSTURE!
When we pray we must FIRST understand who is the object of our prayer
St. Matthew 6:9
Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
When we understand who GOD is, this knowledge will automatically determine our POSTURE ---how we behave!
God is HOLY so as we go into payer we must assume a Holy posture
since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
GOD’S HOLINESS CAN ONLY BE UNDERSTOOD BY REVELATION THROUGH INTIMACY
THE ULTIMATE AIM OF PRAYER IS TO GET AUDIENCE WITH GOD. THINK ABOUT GOING TO AN EARTHLY KING. YOU CAN’T SEE THE KING CASUALLY. SO IS IT WE WILL NOT SEE GOD WIYTHOUT THE PROPER POSTURE.
Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
OUR APPRAOCH DETERMINES THE RESULT! THAT IS WHETHER GOD RESPOND TO OR REJECT OUR PRAYERS
Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, which he had not commanded them. And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Among those who are near me I will be sanctified, and before all the people I will be glorified.’ ” And Aaron held his peace.
The Purpose of Prayer
The Purpose of Prayer
IF GOD IS OMNICIENT AND KNOWS EVERY SINGLE NEED WE HAVE WHY DO WE NEED TO ASK HIM FOR SOMETHING HE ALREADY KNOWS WE NEED?????? SHOULDNT A LOVING GOD JUST GIVE US THE THUNGS HE KNOWS WE NEED WITHOUT US HAVE TO ASK???????
Prayer is giving God INVITATION to INTERVENE in our Life. “Prayer is man giving God legal rightand permission to interfere in eart’s affairs” Dr. Myles Munroe
Prayer is the only means that God himself set forth by which he will work on our behalf
GOD CREATED MAN AND GAVE HIM DOMINION TO RULE IN THE EARTH. HE WILL NOT ACT UNLESS MAN INVITES HIM TO ACT.
1, PRAYER IS SENDING GOD AN INVITATION —WHEN WE PRAYER WE ARE SENDING GOD A LETTER OF INVITATION
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
2. PRAYER IS SEEKING GOD’S INTERVENTION
Someone can be invited to a situation but is not able to intervene ! ILLUSTRATION
But our God is able to intervene in our circumstances. He will come to His chlidren’s rescue all we need to do is to call
MOSES CALLED ON HIM AND HE PARTED THE RED SEA
DANIEL CALLED ON HIM AND HE SHUT THE MOUTH OF THE LION
SHADRACH, MESHACH, AND ABEDGNEGO CALLED ON HIM AND HE SHOWED UP IN THE FIRY FURNACE
ELIJAH CALLED ON HIM AND HE ANSWERED BY FIRE
HANNAH CALLED ON HIM AND HER BARREN WOMB WAS OPEN
THE EARLY CHURCH CALLED ON HIM AND MIGHTY MIRACLES FOLLOWED
NOW WE MUST CALL ON HIM AND ALLOW HIM TO INTERVENE!
The Power of Prayer
The Power of Prayer
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE BELIEVER UNDERSTANDS THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTRLY NO POWER IN PRAYER EXCEPT THROUGH THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST
WHY DO WE PRAY IN JESUS’ NAME
WHY DO WE PRAY IN JESUS’ NAME
THE NAME OF JESUS SPEAKS TO OUR COVENANT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
THIS MEANS THAT ONLY THE BELIEVER IN CHRST HAS THE PREVILLEGE OF USING THE NAME OF JESUS
ITS IS ONLY THROUGH THE GRACE OF JESUS WHY WE CAN ACCESS GOD. Romans 5:1-2
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
WE ENTER GOD’S PRESENCE THROUGH THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF CHRIST. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:21
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
WE HAVE SONSHIP THROUGH JESUS CHRIST
St.John 1:12
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
2. PRAYING IN THE NAME OF JESUS MEANS THAT CHRIST HAS GIVEN US POWER OF ATTORNEY
THIS MEANS THAT JESUS CHRIST HAS GIVEN US THE LEGAL RIGHT TO TRANSACT BUSINESS IN HIS NAME
st. John 16:23
In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
