I. The Place Of The False Prophets. v.1

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

What they teach. “damnable heresies”

Isaiah 5:20 “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Why the teach it. “denying the Lord that bought them”

People who deny the Deity or the Humanity of Jesus (or both)

Lost people. (Illus - Rotting apples find each other)

Where they teach. “privily…among you”

Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

II. The People Of The False Prophets. v.2

2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

Shallow people.

Jeremiah 5:30–31 “A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; 31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?”

Simple people.

Hebrews 12:15 “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;”

How does the Devil deceive them? Usually by the easiest possible means: unforgiveness.

Matthew 18:22 “Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”

Satanic people.

Revelation 16:13 “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.”

3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
