Description
Those with the gift of service/helps recognise practical needs in the body and joyfully give assistance to meeting those needs. Christians with this gift do not mind working behind the scenes.
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, next miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, leading, various kinds of tongues.
if service, use it in service; if teaching, in teaching;
Easy Connection
Easy Connection
Let’s look at Rom 12:7 again.
if service, use it in service; if teaching, in teaching;
I have spoken extensively regarding the word Serve. Can anyone make the connection here as perhaps an example to follow in regards to the word Serve?
In those days, as the disciples were increasing in number, there arose a complaint by the Hellenistic Jews against the Hebraic Jews that their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution.
DEACONS!
Go back and read Rom 12:7 again, this time noticing the words and connect them to the issue brought up in Acts 6.
If diakonia, USE it IN DIAKONIA!
Same word we translate to Deacon - Diakonia. Servant!
So break it down the definition:
Diakonia - service - work done by one person or group, that BENEFITS another.
service
ministry
provision
contribution
waiting upon
It is a provision understood as a type of service to others.
So what is your diakonia?
Your service, ministry, provision, contribution, or in other words: whom are you waiting upon.
All Christians are to have these! I love service and helps because it is defined as benefiting others.
Wait though: we have spoken about diakonia, service; but we have not spoken about helps. Clearly they are different words, otherwise, we would not put that little slash in there to connect the words, yet keep them seperate!
Anti-lempsis
Anti-lempsis
If you notice this word begins with ANTI - ANTI-lempsis
What does ANTI mean?
Lempsis - take or receive

Basically -yes it means OPPOSITE
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, next miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, leading, various kinds of tongues.
Helping - helps.
Antilempsis = help - assistance in a time of difficulty
it is the Ability to help.
helpful deed
support
providing strength
defense
This brings a different aspect into the idea of service doesn’t it. It is easy to think about all the behind the scenes work, the dishes, the sweeping, moping, cleaning, wrapping presents, organization, cleaning, lending a hand.
BUT
Helps takes us deeper.
Instead of taking - giving
instead of receiving - supporting
Suddenly the words are not so much about doing deeds in an area, but are very personal in nature. Its not just about benefiting others generally, this word is about benefiting others directly.

Carry one another’s burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.
But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love for mankind appeared,
