The sermon explores the significance of obedience in the lives of individuals who truly tremble at God's Word. Beginning with the notion that when what is not sin takes precedence over God's Word, it becomes sin, the sermon emphasizes the importance of prioritizing and obeying God's commands. It delves into the understanding that God's instructions may not always make sense in the context of our worldly views, but when we choose to obey despite the lack of understanding, the results can be astonishing.

Introduction

The fear of Lord can be broken down into two categories:
Trembling at the presence of God.
Trembling at God’s Word.
Isaiah 66:1 (NKJV)
1Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest?
What does it mean to tremble at God’s word?
Philippians 2:12 (NKJV)
12Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
The fear of Lord gives you the ability to obey, not only in His presence, but also when it seems He is absent.
What gives you the ability to obey when you don’t sense Him? THE FEAR OF THE LORD.
Every home has a rule of order…When we are young we are taught to obey that rule of order. When our parents are not home we are challenged with following that rule of order or disobeying it.
We are obedient while in church…the true test comes when we are obedient when we are not in church.
Foundational Truths:
God is the one who knows what’s right for me.
God is pure in love and I am the focus of His pure love.
God will never tell me to do something that is detrimental. “Whatever He says is best.”
No matter what says, “ choose to obey.”
FIVE THINGS THAT DEFINE A PERSON WHO TREMBLES AT GOD’S WORD.

The person who trembles at God’s word will obey immediately.

One man whom Jesus asked to follow Him requested to FIRST bury his father.
Luke 9:59 (NKJV)
59Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
Another man requested that Jesus allow FIRST allow him to say goodbye to his family.
Luke 9:61 (NLT)
61Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.”
WHEN WHAT IS NOT SIN TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER THE WORD OF GOD, IT BECOMES SIN.

Those who tremble at God’s word obey God even when it doesn’t make sense.

What God commands will not always make sense through the lens of our world.

Jesus said that, “wisdom is shown…by its results.”

Matthew 11:19 (NLT)
19The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.”

When we choose to obey God, even if it doesn’t make sense to us, the results will be amazing.

Those who tremble at God’s word obey even when they don’t see a personal benefit.

The church in America often attaches obeying God to a personal benefit.
The reality is that obeying God is reward enough.
The story of Esther is a good example of this principle.
Esther 4:16 (The Living Bible, Paraphrased)
16“Go and gather together all the Jews of Shushan and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day; and I and my maids will do the same; and then, though it is strictly forbidden, I will go in to see the king; and if I perish, I perish.”
Esther 4:16 (NLT)
16“Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”

Those who tremble at God’s word obey even when its painful.

JESUS HUMBLED HIMSELF EVEN UNTO DEATH
Philippians 2:8 (NKJV)
8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
What drove Jesus to obey even to the point of sweating drops of blood?
Hebrews 5:7 (NLT)
7While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.
False religions will seek out suffering in order to please little g “gods”.
True christianity seeks to obey God and when we do we will encounter suffering.
The fear of Lord allows us to endure suffering as service to God.
When we f God our standard is, “The most important thing is to obey God.”
We will obey God because we deeply know Him from our fear of Him and our love for Him.
1 Peter 4:1 (NKJV)
1Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

Those who tremble at God’s word obey to completion.

Saul’s failure to fully obey the Lord God caused him to be disqualified.
1 Samuel 15:3 (NIV)
3Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’ ”
1 Samuel 15:26 (NIV)
26But Samuel said to him, “I will not go back with you. You have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you as king over Israel!”
ALMOST COMPLETE OBEDIENCE TO GOD IS NOT OBEDIENCE TO GOD.
FOLLOWERS OF JESUS HAVE A DUTY TO OBEY THE LORD.
Luke 17:10 (NKJV)
10So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ”
God is seeking those who will obey Him.
