Intro

wrapping up this period
recapping an idea more than the story its self
we recieve a command from God to do a specific thing
we are even led by people who are supposed to be good examples of following those things
and still we and they end up complaining and refusing to see the bigger picture

Water From the Rock

God gives laws and commands to Moses and to the people
the people complain as starts most of the stories recorded for this time period, nearly to the point that its tedious to read
God hears and provides
the command is specific
who else can make water come out of a rock? who else can provide in the wilderness
who else can conquer empires and armies?
but Moses had finally been irritated so much by the people that even he loses perspective
even he forgets who makes the water come out of the rock
God still provides even though he doesn’t have to
but he also lets them know that there will be consequences for them over and over forgetting him

Punishment of God’s Opposition

and this is a characteristic of God that is prevalent throughout the rest of the Israelites conquest
they will go to the promised land and be commanded to wipe out the people there
there are consequences to opposing the God who has gifted you life and provided you a place in his creation and who hears you and longs for a relationship with you
there are even heavier consequences for beings like the nephilim, born of rebellion and raised for no other purpose
Aaron, Miriam, and Moses will all pass away before the promised land is taken even though they will move in that direction and come right up against the Jordan

Application

going along with a lot of the themes we have been talking about and trying to wrap up this idea
maybe we will talk about Balaam and Balak to make that point next time
however, God is the one who provides, who creates, who sustains
if I’m looking for any of those in something else I will not find them
I may find them in part but it won’t be lasting and will leave me wanting more
God is the one whom I have to realize I’m meant to look for
