We are dropping in right at the end of a conversation about not acting righteous for your own glory.
It ends with a statement that your Father who sees in secret will reward in secret. Then the text moves straight into our passage today without any kind of textual transition
I. Treasure the Lord
I. Treasure the Lord
Illustration: When I was in Middle school I wanted to be a UGA football player. I wanted to be a defensive lineman for the DAWGS. that didn’t happen.
The first time I realized that I did not value that dream as much as I thought I did was sitting in the stand of a High School football game
I realized this the moment I felt my Mom’s hands grab my head and turn it to the other side of the field—where the ball had moved to while I was looking at the Cheerleaders...
don’t waste your time on Earthly treasures. They don’t last
You can’t serve two masters.
You think you can but you can’t
Isn’t it interesting that the master mentioned here is money?
What is this weird section in vv. 22-23?
Jesus is preemptively answering your question.
Think of a lamp.
Heart is the fire
Eyes are lense
Anyone who hears this text and really thinks about will ask, “Do I try to serve two masters.
he is using the lamp as an illustration on how you can now.
If your heart desires other things than Christ, your eyes will show it.
You will look at and to things other than Christ
What you look at and what you look to will change based on what you valuer

II. Kingdom Seekers don’t have time to worry
II. Kingdom Seekers don’t have time to worry
Jesus tells his followers not to worry about a couple of really important things:
food
clothing
Jesus makes this an item of faith
“you of little faith”- v.30
instead of worrying, we are to seek the Kingdom
III. This brings up a few questions
III. This brings up a few questions
Should we not have bank accounts?
Should I not worry about college?
Should I not worry about providing for a family?
My answer is going to shock you: NO.
We spiritualize too many things. Jesus meant what he said.
Before you laugh me out of the room, let’s discuss this some.
Jesus is clear: Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
The first think we should seek is the Kingdom
before a starting position
before a car
before a scholarship
before a particular friend group
Jesus has called us to be Missional
before you go and quit your teams, hear what I mean.
Seeking those things is the sin, not doing or having them.
We are to seek the Kingdom. This means that we should seek the Kingdom, and that motivation should be why you do everything else
We should play sports for no other reason than the benefit of the Kingdom
We should seek scholarships for no other reason than the Kingdom.
We should seek good paying jobs for no other reason than the Kingdom.
We should seek marriage and children for no other reason than
