THE IMPORTANCE OF WORSHIP

INTRODUCTION:

NOT MANY OF US UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF WORSHIP.

WORSHIP KEEPS US CONNECTED SPIRITUALLY, MENTALLY, AND PHYSICALLY.

WHEN WE ARE DISCONNECTED FROM WORSHIP, THAT’S WHEN OUR LIVES BEGAN TO FALL APART.

THE REASON IS , OUR HEARTS ARE TOO FAR APART FROM GOD.

WE HAVE TO BE CLOSE TO GOD, SO THAT HE CAN HAVE OUR HEARTS. AND MIND.

THE PSALMIST IN CHAPTER 73 GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE WHEN YOU ARE DISCONNECTED FROM THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD.

TODAY I LIKE TO TALK ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF WORSHIP.

WORSHIP HELPS OUR VIEW OF LIFE.

WORSHIP EMPOWERS US WITHIN.

WORSHIP LEADS US TO SERVICE.

A. WORSHIP REMOVES NEGATIVITY.

Psalm 73:2–3 “But as for me, my feet were almost gone; My steps had well nigh slipt. For I was envious at the foolish, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”

THE PSALMIST WAS SO FOCUS ON THE PROSPERITY OF THE OF THE UNGODLY THAT HE ALMOST LOST SIGHT OF WHO HE WAS.

WHEN YOUR FOCUS IS ON NEGATIVITY IT CAN CAUSE YOU TO STORE UP BITTERNESS AND ENVY IN YOUR HEART. AND THAT CAN CAUSE YOU TO STUMBLE.

WHAT THE PSALMIST INVITED INTO HIS HEART WAS THE EVIL OF THE UNGODLY.

WHAT WAS MISSING IN THE PSALMIST HEART WAS WORSHIP AND LACK OF FAITH IN GOD, AND A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING.

IF THE PSALMIST WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A PLACE OF WORSHIP, THE PSALMIST WOULD HAVE HAD A BETTER UNDERSTANDING, HOW GOD WILL DEAL WITH THE UNGODLY.

BECAUSE THE WORD OF GOD WOULD HAVE GIVING HIM THE WISDOM TO KNOW THAT WHAT APPEAR TO BE PROSPEROUS FOR THE UNGODLY IS NOT PERMANENT , BUT ONLY TEMPORARY.

Ecclesiastes 8:16–17 “When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:) then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further, though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.”

B. WORSHIP HELP OUR VIEW OF LIFE.

Psalm 73:17 “Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then understood I their end.”

THINGS WILL CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE, WHEN YOU ARE COMMITTED TO WORSHIP.

WHAT CHANGED IN THE PSALMIST LIFE WAS A BETTER PERSPECTIVE ABOUT LIFE.

THE PSALMIST CHOSE TO WORSHIP INSTEAD OF STAYING BITTER.

IT WAS NOT UNTIL HE WENT INTO THE SANCTUARY OF GOD THAT THE PSALMIST PROCESS THE SITUATION OF THE WICKED CORRECTLY.

WE ALWAYS TRY TO ANALYZE THINGS WITHOUT GETTING THE TRUTH FROM GOD.

YOUR TRUTH IS NOT GOD’S TRUTH.

THE HEBREW MEANING OF WORSHIP A POSTURE OF SUBMISSION AND THUS AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY.

SIMPLY TO BOW DOWN.

Proverbs 4:5–9 “Get wisdom, get understanding: Forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: Love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: She shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: A crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.”

C. WORSHIP LEADS US TO SERVICE.

Psalm 73:28 “But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all thy works.”

IN THE OLD TESTAMENT THE WORD WORSHIP WAS YOUR SERVICE TO GOD.

MEANING SERVING GOD, WHICH SHOWS YOUR COMMITMENT AND LOVE FOR HIM.

YOU CAN’T WORSHIP GOD, IF YOU ARE NOT AROUND TO SERVE HIM.

WHEN YOU IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE, YOU CAN’T BE AWAY FROM THEM.

WHY DO WE WORSHIP GOD?

1. BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS.

2. BECAUSE WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US.

3. BECAUSE HE COMMANDS US.

4. BECAUSE WE LOVE HIM.

Hebrews 10:22 “let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”
