15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!
Far be that thought !
Thats a serious question shall we continue to sin because we are not under the law but under grace?
Because we are saved by grace we live in grace grace covers us etc. etc.
And if you answer is Yes. Theres a misappropriation about what grace is.
Far be that thought! to think Christ came just so I can have freedom to fight against Him.
See our relation to sin is broken forever because we are in the Risen Christ, and we shared His death!
So how we relate to Christ is not based upon our sin. But to our relationship to Christ.
2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.
Lewdness - Indulgence in sensual pleasure unrestrained by convention of morality.
So essentially theres no amount of reason that can stop someone how is lewd. His conscience is no longer of any use to him. Not even prison could reform someone of this nature. Only Christ can
Lust - evil craving- an inordinate, self indulgent craving (that displaces proper affections for God)
An evil craving or a longing. Sexual or other wise, also an obsession where with someone or something cars etc.
Drunkenness- A temporary state resulting from excessive consumption of alcohol.
your not just tipsy but your bent lol
Revelries- binge party- an occasion for excessive eating or drinking ( with moral debauchery normally ensuing).
Orgy
Drinking parties- an occasion for excessive drinking of alcohol ( with ensuing moral debauchery)
Abominable Idolatry - forbidden worship of material representation of a deity.
4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.
The world runs to these things, but think it strange that you don’t .
The world runs to these things and they think its strange that you don’t
16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
Paul is speaking out about the abuse of liberty.
The abuse of knowing you’ve been saved but yet disregarding the gravity or the weight of what that means and continuing to live in sin.
Its easy to disregard your liberty when you don’t know who you are.
He who commits sin comes under the bondage of sin as master.
Sin isn’t your master but the bondage of that sin becomes your master.
Though you belong to another
How many of us seen Locked up abroad ?
There was one time I went inside of a Haitian prison to preach the gospel
Its like if you get locked up abroad. You will have to face the same judgement anyone would face though one is not from that country. You’re still an American, but because you broken the law abroad you have to pay consequences for your action. And you will fall under the hand of a master or government etc.
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
Most assuredly- I tell you the truth
The practice of sin actively enslaves.
So Jesus is saying the ultimate form of slavery is not a political or economic system, but the vicious slavery of moral failure, and rebellion against God!
This is the ultimate form of slavery!
Though prison is bad but you still can be free even if your in prison.
You still can experience hope and liberty though one is locked up.
The irony you can be in prison though your aren’t behind bars.
God has set believers free to serve Himself the only other master is sin.
23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.
Lets not destroy the work of God for food. (Happy ThanksGiving !)
Theres a debate about should I drink achole or not.
My thing is if its gonna cause offense or even worst cause my brother to stumble I won’t do it.
So my drinking achole is not coming from faith it is a sin.
When you use your freewill and go beyond faith, you will be in a state of conscious condemnation. Like Spiritually I feel condemned.
For whatever is not from faith is sin.
This is how Paul is defining sin anything thats not of faith.
That convicting !
Any place where your conscious is not at rest more then likely there sin there.
That person you haven’t forgiven sin
The extra time on the phone sin
The lack of study time with God sin
8 bacons instead of 4 bacons sin
Extra gravy on the trukey
That person at the church you gossip about sin
That neighbor God has been telling you to minster to but your still havent doon it sin.
That spiritual video God has been telling you to do every week. sin.
That Bible college course God has been telling you to take and you havnet done it sin.
Anywhere your conscious is not at rest is sin.
You missed the mark in that particular area of your life.
17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
But God be Thanked!
have you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine?
That pattern of teaching which is salvation by the cross?
In order for us to be obedient from the heart involves a work of Divine wisdom and power far beyond what was involved in the creation of the world!
It was far more complex, far more difficult for God to provide a way of salvation then for Him to create the world.
William Newell
Romans Verse-by-Verse Chapter 6
Moral and spiritual impossibilities are greater than physical impossibilities
We obey from the heart the impossible news of the cross!
God had to become a man, he had to become His creation! He had to die, how can God die? In His humanity He did. He had to become sin, How can one take upon Himself the sins of the entire world? The Father had to forsake the Son , never been done in the history in all humanity. He had to be ressurected!
