2 Corinthians 1:3–4 KJV 1900
3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
Our nation, our world, and our young people need comfort.
According to an article in Forbes Health
Nationally: Over 40 million adults (19.1% of the population) have an anxiety disorder in the U.S[1]. According to the U.S. Census Bureau Household Pulse Survey, nearly one third of adults (32.3%) reported anxiety and depression symptoms in 2023[2].
Worldwide: Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the world[5]. Roughly 301 million people, an estimated 4% of the global population, have an anxiety disorder[6] .
Age group: One survey found that young people are more likely to experience symptoms of anxiety than older adults[2]. In adolescents between 13 and 18 years old, 31.9% are affected by anxiety disorders[1].
God’s true nature is a God of comfort
In Paul’s day and in this day many people have a distorted view of God.
In Paul day many served God were demanding, distant, and mean.
Therefore, think of The God of our Lord Jesus Christ as mean, unjust, distant, uncaring. Many would why should I believe God, the Bible in a world full turmoil and destruction. Why should I believe did not stop terrible thing from happening to me or my family.
Today many us have experienced hurt, losses, and pain.
Pandemics, nature disasters, crime, hatred, wars, and unforgiveness has plagued our world.
The God of Comfort is the most correct view of God the Father of Jesus Christ. The purpose of this message to help us gain a deeper revelation of the God of comfort to experience an empowerment from the God of comfort to turn our worries to prayers. Phil 4:6-7
Philippians 4:6–7 KJV 1900
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
What does The GOD of comfort not mean?
The God of comfort does not mean the God that keep up from experiencing trouble while we on this earth.
The Apostle Paul had his fair share of trouble, pains, disappointment. He suffered being lied on, physical abuse while doing God’s will. 2 Cor 11:23-31
2 Corinthians 11:23–31 KJV 1900
23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. 24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. 25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. 28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? 30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. 31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.
Suffering and Pain is so real : 2 Cor 1:8-9
2 Corinthians 1:8–9 KJV 1900
8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
Elijah suffering may him want to die:
1 Kings 19:4 KJV 1900
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
Psalm 55:6 KJV 1900
6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away, and be at rest.
Each of these men had moments in their lives they wanted to give they got depress they lost hope. What kept them is the same thing that will keep us.
The God if comfort is not the God that isolates us from what can happen in the world.
What is the God of comfort?
The greek word for comfort is paraklesesos
3870 parakaléō (from 3844 /pará, "from close-beside" and 2564 /kaléō, "to call") – properly, "make a call" from being "close-up and personal." 3870 /parakaléō ("personally make a call") refers to believers offering up evidence that stands up in God's court.
[3870 (parakaléō), the root of 3875 /paráklētos ("legal advocate"), likewise has legal overtones.]
Someone who will stand and walk with us though life. Some who will be present and help us through life’s troubles
The Latin word for the comfort is Fortis which means strength
Psalm 46:1 KJV 1900
1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
The same word as Holy Spirit
John 14:15–18 KJV 1900
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
As humans on this earth that has a covenant we are the only being the can experience The God of comfort! with God through His only begotten Son and who choose to honor and obey Him we can experience His comfort, grace, and peace.
God is called the “Father of compassion” and the “God of all comfort.” In His mercy and love, God is eager to provide comfort to His children in any and all circumstances.
Whatever the trial we face, our Heavenly Father knows the situation and offers comfort as needed. The fact that He is the God of all comfort teaches that all comfort ultimately comes from Him. He is our source of peace and happiness and blessings.
What comfort is like?
A floation device that prevents us from drowning in a body of water.
The floation device does not take us out of the water. Likewise, the comfort of does not take problems and cares from us.
Some floatation devices have strobe light that make us visible so God can rescue us. 2 Peter 2:9
2 Peter 2:9 KJV 1900
9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
Some floation device sea marker dye that will emmit color in the water so that those from the air to rescue
Romans 10:13 KJV 1900
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
we can be comforted because when life throws us overboard we have a flotation device that our LORD to rescue us.
Like wise when we praise God! call upon his name. Focus on goodness and mercy he will rescue and make a way of escape for us.
1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV 1900
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Acts 16:25–26 KJV 1900
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
Praise God in midst of trouble; the garment of Isaiah 61: 1-3
Isaiah 61:1–3 KJV 1900
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, To give unto them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they might be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
God is the God of comfort to those that has a revelation to praise Him to magnify. Praise magnify God; worry magnify trouble. Let receive comfort by praying to and PRAISING and honoring God!!
