I. Christ is Our Light. Ch.1
1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
II. Christ is Our Life. Ch.2
1 John 2:6 “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
III. Christ is Our Love. Ch.3
1 John 3:16 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
IV. Christ is Our Learning. Ch.4
1 John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
V. Christ is Our Lord. Ch.5
1 John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
The three epistles of John have a definite connection to one another:
In 1 John we read of the common life of God's children.
In 2 John we read of the family life of God's children.
In 3 John we read of the church life of God's children.
Some people doubt whether it is possible to know for
sure that one is saved. Well, the Bible tells us of some
who knew: Job, Job 19:25; Paul, 2 Tim. 1:12. Since God
is no respecter of persons, you may have that same
assurance also.
In 1 John we have the BIRTHMARKS of a born again believer:

I. Spiritual Conversion.

1 John 5:1 “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.”

II. A Spiritual Change.

1 John 1:6–7 “6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

III. A Spiritual Charity.

1 John 2:9–11 “9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.”

IV. A Spiritual Companion.

1 John 4:13 “Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.”

Conclusion:

Are you marked for the Lord?
Are you marked for Hell?
