Christ the King, Thirty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (2)
Notes
Transcript
Christ is King of All
the Good rules all
right now appearance veils this reality, because moving toward end
all moves conveyer belt to end: the Good
when rule becomes obvious and final
how experience the good depends on what we choose to be
only 2 ways
sheep and goats
today
heard many parables end times
here, if treat neighbor (particularly the suffering) well
directed to those who seem to be believers in the Lord, but neglect the lowly
if God, died to save even the lowliest of all with his infinite glory and we do not even offer our earthly riches to them
we do not follow him even in imitation
Likewise God came to save mankind, but if don’t see our neighbor as ourselves how can we say we are part of mankind which God came to save?
let us examine ourselves and see if we have had concern for those in need
if not, have a change of heart before your heart is set at the end when his rule is made clear.
Many ways
As St. Aquinas , works mercy not sufficient
1 Cor 6 along with others gives long lists of things that cannot be done if want eternal life
Christ in various other passages tells us we will be judged on
if forgiving
if not drunk on earthly pleasures
use our gifts well
listen to his messengers
garments of God
James 2:10. guilty of one point, guilty of all
2 fold
as James 1:27. says, pure religion before God is visit orphans and widows in afflic and keep oneself unstained by the world
Love God w/ all heart mind soul and neighbor as self
These are not divided. Can’t have one without the other
if think love neighbor but without God, you dont really love your neighbor
if think love God but dont care for neighbor, dont really love God.
Beware of the temptation to cut God’s 2 fold law in half
you are not saved just by being good to lowly
not saved just by keeping yourself pure from vile temptations
must do keep both, and thank God that there is forgiveness
A little yeast corrupteth the whole, so be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect
if bad will hate the rule of good, if good the rule of good will be bliss
