John 8:31-36
The Holy Spirit is the person by which believers come to Christ and see with new eyes of faith.
We are drawn to the cross of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit’s chief function is to illuminate Jesus’ teaching.
In order to walk in freedom we must be born again.
Freedom allows us to be free from the guilt because we have experienced God’s forgiveness.
We are free from the penalty of sin because Christ died for us on the cross.
Grace and freedom go together.
Liberty + love = service to others.
Liberty - love = license to sin which is really slavery to sin--works, pride, selfishness.
Love in the heart is God’s substitute for laws and threats.
The Holy Spirit within gives us the love that we need.
No matter how many rules or standards a church may adopt, there are no guarantees of spirituality.
Unless the Holy Spirit of God is permitted to fill hearts with His love, selfishness and competition will reign.
A lot of individuals in the church today don’t experience the freedom of Christ due to the spirit of religion.
Religion is just a bunch of rules you have to amount up to and is counterfeit Christianity.
This is dangerous.
This is a form lukewarmness. It paralyzes the Spirit in our lives.
“Why is it that the new Christians create problems in church?” a young pastor asked.
The problem has always been there but pastors have gotten used to it.
New Christians are like children in the home: they tell the truth about everything!
When we aren’t submitted to the truth the Holy Spirit isn’t allowed to do His work, therefore we are driven by law and works, pride and competition.
Honesty is the beginning of true freedom, as we admit that we are sinners, confess our sins and receive from God all that we need.
If we want God’s best for our lives and churches, we must be honest with God and let God be honest with us.
When we are honest and let the truth have free reign in our lives this releases the freedom of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
This results in bearing fruit and that is what attracts the lost to Jesus Christ.
This is the best place we can be in Christ--just like a child wants to please his father, we want to please Jesus Christ.
This is the point when we let Jesus burn off the filth of pride, selfishness, unforgiveness and bitterness--down-right sin!
This is the point when we know our address has been changed!!!
We start knowing God’s grace that empowers us to live holy as He is holy.
Those things we used to do in the old man are not appealing anymore.
Actually the opposite becomes reality.
Those previous old things are dead and dull because we have been delivered from them.
That is when the Word comes to life and illuminates the law of sin and death.
We now are walking in the freedom John 8:32 is talking about--”You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
In coming into that freedom, you are born again to a living hope!
Are you ready to come to Jesus Christ today, repent of your sins and receive the freedom He has for you?
