1 Corinthians 1

1 Corinthians 1:4–9 ESV
I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
This last week was thanksgiving, a specific time of year where we are reminded to be thankful. Whether you are listening to this as it comes out or later though we can know that we should be thankful in all seasons of life not just one. It is clear through Paul’s writings that he is a pretty thankful guy. There is a lot of meat that we can dive into in these few short verses but ultimately the overarching thing that we see in them is that Paul is thankful. This is a common way that he starts out his letters and here we see the use of the word always. Paul demonstrates for us a spirit of always being thankful.
In our crazy busy lives where there are so many distractions we need to remember to be thankful. Even when life is tough we have so much to be thankful for. We have been given the grace of God and he has showed us his great mercy, this is something to be grateful for. We have been empowered and gifted by God to do the work that he has for us, this is something to be grateful for. We are forgiven, this is something to be grateful for.
When the trials of life come and they get you down remember that you have so much to be thankful for. Paul demonstrated a spirit of thankfulness in his letters and when we read them we can often have the same reasons to be thankful. Don’t forget all the good that he has done in your life. Be thankful now and in every season of life.
