1 Peter 2:11-25
So good morning again everybody. We are in 1st Peter chapter 2. Going to turn there. I really love going through book by book verse by verse in line by line. I really love it. I think you get a good idea of what Peter is trying to say to the churches to the dispersed ones and also to Austin this morning. So he's been going through kind of in the beginning of First Peter. Just kind of a recap remember we see that we're aliens are going to see that same thing that we're aliens were pilgrims as part of the body of Christ as Believers as Christians to use those terms. This isn't our home. We're not going to stay here forever. It's going to be a short short time. Actually, you know 80 is 90 years, over a hundred that's nothing, you know compared to Millennium, you know, that's nothing but it talked about a future hope and a future salvation. I should say he rather Peter did and then it talked about last week. He talked about his new born baby Desiring the pure milk of the word Instinct connected to that pure milk of the word, which is ultimately the gospel in a connected to the gospel. I'll never buy passing it or overlooking it. And very practical stuff for us right to you know, how do I live as a Christian? What do I do once I become a Believer because what really blows us all away is New Believers is the gospel. It's the cross. It's it's his sacrifice is sinless sacrifices his resurrection. That's like wow, but then we we think we mature away from that. So come back to that stay rooted in that is what Peter told us last week. And today it's more of we're going to be in 2:11. He starts off calling us aliens and strangers again sticking with the same theme and how to live practically in day-to-day circumstances how to honor government out of Honor Authority how to ultimately even in the workplace as an employee at talked about slaves and I'll unpack that as we get there. But really I like it. It's it's where the rubber meets the road type thing. This is how we are to live as new Believers as these aliens. As the chosen people of God As I said a few weeks ago. I live should look different. I live should not look like everybody else has and I can't remember. I think it was Gerald call me radical once and I took it as a compliment, you know, and he said your radical I'm like well for Jesus, yeah, you know, I'm not radical for this for the sake of being radical, but absolutely we should look a little bit different. So let's pray and then we'll go 11 12 13 through 17 and 18 through the rest of the chapter. So really three sections, there are the spray. Father God. Thank you so much for your word this morning. I'm thank you for song Thank you for singing and praising your name. Oh Lord, there is hope for everyone because you are on your throne because you are Eternal you're outside of time. You're so much bigger than any of our problems with more than you care so so much so father. Thank you so much for your word that we have in front of us. You are revealed word to Osseo Revelation to us today. I pray that we would clearly understand by the power of your spirit what Peter is saying to the dispersed Church? That is spread abroad and the dispersed church today Lord where we meet here is this little church but the capital c charge that large would just understand your love your instruction on how to live and you've given us a prime example in your son. Thank you so much for Jesus. I pray that we would see a clear clear picture of Jesus here this morning in Jesus name we pray amen. All right, so as Christians we are to have a significant impact on the world. By just going out and hitting everybody over the head with a Bible or or just you know. Blasted him with the gospel or just the way we live our lives right your everyday walk in the way your Rhythm of Life should have an impact on the world around you think about that for a minute. I don't know how many friends you have on your co-workers. You have 5, you know, can you should impact and influence that group as a believer in Christ? So it's look at 11 and 12. He said beloved. So he's talking to Christians here. These are absolutely Christians. I heard you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul keep your behavior, excellent among the Gentiles so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers they may because of your good deeds as they observe them glorify God in the day of visitation and that just means the day of judgement the end time when Jesus comes again, that doesn't mean you know, when Jesus comes and visits it means the end time for the Judgment time. So where do matter when you see repetition of words? And again, we see I heard you as aliens and strangers and it said it's raining chapter 1 in the beginning. I said to those who reside is alien scattered through these places chosen according to the foreknowledge of God. So that's who we are as a people of God right with chosen. Aliens and strangers for pilgrims. What a good standing to be in you know, it sounds like a desperate situation, but it's good good to be in that situation loans in strangers. And we also see evildoers mentioned two times. ABC doing good two times. So it's very practical. These are the evildoers. These are people Deeds. Don't do those things. These are the good deeds to do these things and eleven really points out the evil Deeds. It says abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. It's easy to see that Peter wants us to understand that turning from evil in doing good is a huge part of Christian walk practical, you know nuts and bolts Christian Life Right Turn Away From Evil turn towards God and continue to walk towards God, but the negative part is that we do struggle. He says there's a war. Wages war against our soul, you know, it's it's internal as I often say that sin fire read the book of John Owen sending Temptation. It starts out with that gripped me ever since that that little sinfire little bit of Kohl's is in there. So it doesn't ever do no completely go out until we are glorified until the day of visitation the day of judgement right? There is no sin In Heaven There is no imperfection is in heaven. It is all perfect, but we will have a war and we will fight against these things this side of Heaven. But the war specifically is two different things remember in in context of what Peter is saying, you know, he he planted the first church there in Jerusalem and then because being a Christian was seen as radical they were dispersed and they were kicked out and they had to run and hide and kind of wonder. How do we live? What should we do? Should we be quiet which makes sense? Because it's going to talk about government. I supposed to live in a different area.
But they have they could have a temptation to go back to their old way of life. Like I said a few weeks ago how the Israelites complained in the wilderness and said, let's go back to Egypt. You know, we were slave there but it was kind of okay, you know that is a huge war that we have you no sense that we put aside since that Christ has set us free from we want to go back to the old way of life the old me or the old you to let that go to let our new W going. I got what I wanted there. Or the culture around us think about that as you look different in your walk with Christ this morning. It's a temptation to fit in with the culture around us. Which is not good on the World At Large is not a good culture American culture is not a good culture. It is a get it now me first culture and it's a lot like that lot of cultures like that. But that's not what I see the gospel say it's put others ahead of yourself. It'll be humble. Give them the good seat take the low seat. I say it over and over humility is attractive the humble and exalted Christ gave us a great example to follow so giving into the culture around us is another war or battle that goes on when think of it like this. I love this picture and you're going to hear me do this a lot. I I'm a guy I was watching Band of Brothers the other day and I like westerns and War movies and stuff like that. But think of it like Guerilla Warfare isn't that serious tree to tree fighting with somebody with maybe your sword will get rid of guns real real fighting. That's what he's trying to say to you abstain from fleshly lusts. Guerrilla warfare. Hand-to-hand combat. I like that picture. That's the seriousness of it. It's not like well, I'm going to hide over here. Just stay safe. It's a battle, right we going to fight against that. Christians are to be known within the world not just for what they are against as we battle send. This is a huge thing. I think a huge problem. I think in Christianity is we call him legalistic Christians. Do you know well I don't do this and this and this and I've got a list up on my wall that says I don't do these things and people say will aren't Christians just a bunch of people who don't do certain things. We make them. I think that because we act like that. This is what I'm against. What are you actually for? You don't think about that what we're against Saint Peter is saying here would absolutely against flesh we lost. What are we for?
Before the deed right? We're against the world in for Good Deeds were for him for following him. He set the standard for us. Our character in our actions need to be seen Jesus says that in Matthew 5:16 in the same way let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven. So we want to show people are good work. It doesn't say let your light shine so that they may see what your against they may see how how staunch and how angry you can be against this bad thing or this group of people but we we put that out there. That's what we do. I think we need to be against the sin but love the people And so many times we love people in to the sin. We're all Sinners Church, you know, will this group of people? Yeah. That's that's horrendous. The people right? Brandon just let us in song there is hope for everyone but we want to see Jesus says that they may see your good works. Not what we're against and then they think wow something different about that person because we're giving glory to Our Father who is in heaven. When we yield if we lose the battle and sometimes we do what happens is we become double-minded. And I like a man who looks at himself in the mirror and forgets who he is. We we become double-minded, which is not a good it's almost gets a phrenic. You know, we're not focused on him. He is our anchor he is a rock. He is our savior. There is no turning back. You know, it's not an old him. No turning back. No turning back. There is none. Lyle Gould some of you remember him he's passed away. A good friend of mine I said to him once when he was kind of sliding away I said but where you going to go? What you going to do? You've tasted and seen that the Lord is good. And you know, what the right and good thing is, where would you go? Where would you run? So it makes sense when I say it like that but so many times we do become double-minded a schizophrenic. So Peters describing a Sierra that there's a war against the full so that's the bad thing. That's the best the hard part I should say but it sometimes what we portrayed to other the world around us, but the good and positive Christian conductors verse 12 keep your behavior. Excellent among the Gentiles so that I told you I loved that phrase cuz you going to teach us something right here so that in the thing which they slander you as evildoers because anybody that has known you your whole life like a lot of you have known me and said I remember when you did that Justin, I mean when you did this used to be that type of person But because my behavior is excellent now I had a person asked me once do you miss it? And no I don't miss it that has been crucified that is gone. They may because of your good deeds as they observe them and that's talking about living out in action in a life. They glorify God in the day of judgement. So your life needs to fit the place. You're headed to you. No, think of this idea of aliens and strangers where all your manners there main is now. He's like, I don't know. If so say we all go on vacation is a trip to Hawaii for a four-month. Okay, and then we sell all of our main close and we buy Hawaiian shirts and shorts and sandals, you know, and we come back from a vacation and I You know it so that is too much acclimating to the culture of Hawaiian culture of warm culture. That's what he's saying here. Don't you know what I say that phrase was your life needs to fit the place you're headed, you know, if we're pilgrims in Aliens and headed towards heaven. We should live a Heavenly life, you know a kingdom of kingdom of now mentality life and then that makes sense. I love to go to Hawaii Have a great but it would be a dumb thing to do and that's exactly what we see Israelites. The Israelites did over and over and over they would God would rescue them and and they would have a judge or they would have a leader and all the sudden that person would die and they would start to stray and they would intermarry and they would they would have deserved the culture around them instead of affecting the culture around a good which is what God wants us to do its what Peter is telling us you have to do that. We would permeate the culture with our Good Deeds with a grace truth Mercy law of kindness the fruit of the spirit right those things not say, well, I hate this group of people or I hate that, you know, man, you're an angry Christian is what we can be seen as But we need to buy lifestyle needs to fit the place. We're headed to. I love this phrase in this came from a commentator and I like it a lot. Peter is clearly passionate about anything his theology, you know, making it fundamental foundational if we are Christians and if you are a chosen person of God, you're an alien in a stranger. So your theology should be Earth in heaven your feet your heart your mind your soul. Everything should be looking towards heaven. So there there was a grounding earthing people aren't interested in the specifically Peter. He's not interested in a in a piety or some holier-than-thou for sod which is disconnected from the world. You know, most people can spot Christian. He's you know, somebody who says all the right things and then you watch them You observe their lives and they don't behave that way. I like that Earth your theology Church, you know know where it is that you're from you made in the image of God going to heaven and I know we got to move on but this is either good versus I'm laughing 21 verse 13. It says keep your behavior. Excellent. So that is your your character your actions show different a thing which they slander you was evildoers. They made because of your good deeds. I've been as they seen them observe them evangelism living out a sermon living out a Christian Life. It's not just my job. Is actually specifically the person will not specifically there are giftings of evangelism. There are certain people that can go out and go door-to-door and then upgrade it just evangelizing and sharing the gospel in such a good and clear presentation that they mail it every time but it's not just their job. It's our job every single one of you that is a Christian here today. It is your job to be an evangelist and you can just do this thing. You don't have to handle the track. You don't have to say certain words, which words are actually useful and necessary, but you can live it out as people observe your life, you know, someone comes to stay at your house and they see you get up in the morning get your cup of coffee and get your Bible. They see your Bible sitting here. They see your stuff sitting there the guy that did my chimney. He said to me I think he was there a day too. And he said he'll pastor and I hardly ever talk to him. But I think he observed. He probably saw the books and in certain things he just had an idea to go to Israel music Christian, but he observe that so by observing people observing your life. Hopefully they say it isn't it funny how that works. Sometimes when you see someone else and you're like a real Christian, I just sensed it and I could tell by the way, you spoke by the way you behaved. I've been watching you. You're a Believer. All right, let's move forward now it goes into how we live under government. Okay.
Not really. He says submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every Human Institution whether to a King as the one in Authority or the governor's is sent by him for the punishment of evildoers in the praise of those who do right for such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men act as free men to do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as Bond sleeves of God and that great veracity of her 17, very short honor all people love the Brotherhood fear. God honor the king. That's one to remember. That's a good one to live your life by right there on her all people love the Brotherhood. That's us to fear God. That's the that's the God we serve and honor the king. So God has ordered Creation in such a way in lot of us don't like this that it says submit we hate that word. I mean you may be thinking you don't like it. But God has created in such a way that some are always subject to other right doesn't that make sense? I mean there was order in the Garden of Eden there was order even in his creation which some of the ladies might say. I don't like that. You know what you're going to get into next week. It's going to talk about Godly living in the household between women and men. I never see in scripture where God is making a woman less than it is. Just an order. It is God's created order. It's not my order and it's not your order. You know, the way your workplace Works where there's a boss. There's a company, you know, there's an order without that it would be kind of weird. I don't think we can really function. a proper Christian response to any Authority Should reflect positively on Jesus think about that for a minute when the Bible tells us over and over to submit and surrender we do that because it positively reflect on our Lord and savior and then we're walking out our faith. People are seeing your you're this big CEO, but you're not afraid to do anything. You're not afraid to submit to anybody. You don't what scripture say you don't Lord it over other people. Did your servant at heart and that comes from our Lord and savior? Who was a servant at heart Jesus not one time. Did they Lord it over anybody else? He said let me wash your feet and then they got all weirded out and said no. No. No, you can't watch my feet. You're the Son of God. You can't do that. He said no. I'm going to wash your feet. That should reflect positively on Jesus. Believers need to be submissive because Christ was submissive especially during his trial in his crucifixion. But Peter also believe that there was a positive place a proper place. I should say for civil disobedience. There is a time to obey the government and I'm going to say this church and in some radical, but it's true but there's a time when we disobey the government and when is that, hopefully, you know pretty clearly
When the laws of human government make it illegal to obey God if they said right now this happens in other countries not beautiful America. I love this country, but in other countries it is illegal to do or doing. But they still do it, right. Because as as it said an axe, you know, should we obey God a man rather than God you decide but we're going to obey God when they were imprisoned when they were in a bad situation is so we can obey you you're telling us to stop will let you go. If you start preaching the gospel like we we can't do that. We have to preach the gospel, but the law says if you do I'm going to put you in jail, then you obey God church, but if there are laws which there are laws out there and let's just use this one and it's a hot one abortion. Which Christians should be against his people babies that are made in the image of God, you know that God ordains every single living thing that is born animals even in all under God's orchestration all under his control, but we're not commanded to have abortions, right? You get the difference, you know if we're commanded we say absolutely not we're going to be spitting babies out like crazy and you can take us to jail for it and we're going to do it because we're commanded to be fruitful and multiply, you know, but it's it's a it's an option. I should say the law makes options like a permissive law or a passive law where we could very strongly disagree with the law, but we're not, you know, here we see this year. He says submit yourself for the Lord's sake so it's for the Lord's sake to every Human Institution whether to a King as one in Authority or 10 Governors that this is government church. I sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and to the price of those who do right. So government should structure should do the right thing. They should punish bad guys in reward good guy, but we know that usually doesn't happen. I mean, maybe it did happen in the old days. But guess what church we can't go back to the old days. The government is the way it is, but I'm not saying we need to support the government and and you know overthrow the government anything like that but it says submit yourself to every Human Institution as the one God ordains you'd remember that. Who is your king? It is not, you know, the English king. You know, it's not the queen she's passed away. Now, it's not our president is Jesus. Right? Jesus is our Lord and savior our King our Messiah so we obey him rather than me and that's easy. But he also allows in his permissive will these people to be in positions of government? So where to surrender them only in regards to if it doesn't say well you can't read the Bible you can't do this. You can't do that. Then we're to disobey. I think it's clear. We disobey right there. Then when he says he can't have church anymore if they came in right now and said that we should come right back here next Sunday. I have church and then just have to fill the jail full of us. I hope you feel that way. because that's what Peter is saying here, you know, there are times when we disobey and it might cost us something but You know just look what it cost Jesus. He kept his mouth shut those as well.
What's the point of such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men over 60, he says act as free men and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil. So use your freedom saying as a slave or servant of God to honor him, right? He's given us freedom. Not so we can send not so we can honor stand or on ourselves but to honor him he set us free to honor him. In this last verse of a 17 the last in the section when he says honor all people love the Brotherhood fear God honor the king.
Maybe your Bible says respect in there somewhere to somebody say respect. Yeah, some just a couple the word is honor. It's just the same word, you know use there and his I want to tell you why I hear the emperor was thought to be divine. So Peter uses the same word to honor for the emperor and for all people so Peter understood as the emperor of Rome, you know this huge big deal, you know who thought he was divine Peter is saying honor him just like you honor everybody else. He's just a person right? That's what he's saying by doing. So he's cutting a down to size in saying God allows the emperor to have a certain amount of control just on her hand like you would anybody else if he says you got to pay taxes just pay your taxes, you know, that's what Jesus said right whose inscription is on the coin render to Caesar. What is Caesar's just pay it. You know, why cause trouble But also I hope you understand the word is honor there in the Greek is the same way and I think that's the reason is he wants to bring the emperor down to size but honor and respect are not the same thing, right?
You can respect somebody but it doesn't mean you have to honor them. Right does that make sense? Everybody? You can respect a lot of different people even say I disagree with you. I respect your opinion and I respect that but I have to honor it. I don't have to throw a party for you and lift you up on high and show you honor and say he come sit here your great-great position that you that I disagree with that you have to see the difference, but you can respect him. I think that's what we should do as Christians. But there's also another difference between fear and honor. Look what it says in there says honor all people love the Brotherhood social honored all people love the Brotherhood that's us love jerks. That's where called a lot right and then be a god. It doesn't say respect God. It doesn't say honor God but fear God. And what if you have no one else no other man, no other woman. And then on to the king and that's not capital K King. If not talking about Jesus. I remember I thought that's what that meant. When I first became a Christian. I was like yours. I love that. One of the Kinks was actually talking about the emperor, you know, just show honor to this person that has position of authority but fear God is where we should make our living right there and then move on to loving the Brotherhood one another Matthew 10:28 says and do not fear Those Who Kill the body but cannot kill the soul rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and Body in hell, that's God. No other man has a type of authority. They can kill you dead, but you got to go to heaven. You know as it says beloved I heard you is aliens and strangers. Just like the Israelites Heelys in strangers going forward into the promised land where the same exact way. What an awesome example is giving us all that Old Testament to teach us in the show us to go back and say look what they did. You're doing the same thing, but you should do a better job because you have a better Promise Land. Who won the last section?
First 18 He said servants now was going to talk about. Slaves I put a? By sleeves and I'll tell you why but mostly it's the workplace in everyday living here. He says in verse 18 servants be submissive to your masters with all respect not only to those who are good and gentle but also to those who are unreasonable for this finds favor it for the sake of conscience to our god a good a person Bears upon your Sorrows when suffering unjustly for what credit is there if when you send in a harshly treated you endure it with patients, but if when you do what is right and suffer for you patiently endure it this finds favor with God, so It's kind of funny there that. He's addressing slaves at all because most Bible readers Peter Paul and later Christian writers. They didn't address slaves at all. Really. You know, what did they say? I mean think about this and it as I was studying this site, the only thing that's addressed to Slaves is you know, you're born a slave honor God fear God and honour the King you're free. You actually free and spirit. You know, you're a pilgrim. You're one of the chosen people of God. It's super unfortunate. You're a slave and slavery was different in the ancient times these people paid a wage in all that. They had a little more freedom. It wasn't like a service or slavery. We think of that happened years ago, but back then it was a slight bit different but it's interesting to Me That You Don't See slavery completely abolished the Bible. And you don't see if you did. Why didn't Jesus why didn't Jesus just say absolutely wrong. We need to get rid of it. We need to start an uprising right now everybody. That is a sleigh. We need we need to start this big Uprising. You don't seem do that. You seem say
servants be submissive to your masters with all respect not to the ones that are just good and gentle which is easy by the way, but also those who are unreasonable, you know, it's a horrible situation, but he saying You're worth more than that. You know when you know, you're a chosen child of God don't we have so much more we have hope we have a future, you know, even as a slave, you know, I bet those slaves that became Christians in these ancient days and you see it. Actually they acted different they started to act with such a freedom and a Carefree attitude. But but the funny thing was they kept doing what they did yesterday. They kept doing the work, but they were free. They were free men and women knowing that men cannot do anyting. It was kind of unusual that he dresses here, but we can also move this over to the workplace. This is real practical for us. Servants or let's say employees be submissive to your boss or your your head Department.
This is kind of a command here. with all respect so you can show them respect. It's easy to respect the good ones. But to those who are unreasonable. You don't have to honor them. You can give them respect right? You can be a good.
Employee who is filled with the fruit of the spirit. Incessant verse 19 the reason word for for this finds favour it for the sake of conscience toward God a person Bears up under Sorrows when suffering unjustly. So there's suffering unjustly and suffering justly. So he's going to talk about you. What credit is there if when you send you a heart to be treated so in the workplace if you make a mistake and you're punished for it, it's your fault, right if you did it and that's a funny Concept in today's culture. Do you know if you do something wrong in the boss that you did that wrong punish you for it that's reasonable. But if you don't do anything wrong and your boss is hard and your boss is hard. He says this finds favor with the Lord cuz you showing endurance you're showing patients you're showing kindness, you know. It is difficult. I'm not saying it's not tough. But this is what the Lord.
Where you find favor with the Lord, it says if you suffer and you patiently endure it this finds favor with God, you know, if we met up with our fault, we need to take ownership of it. I'm sorry. I messed up learn those words. I'm sorry. It is my fault. And then it was your fault. Just take it. Who is the last section is beautiful section? Because I think as we talked about practicality. Let's get right to the reach of the stores here. For you have been called for this purpose since Christ also suffered for you leaving for you an example for you to follow in his steps who committed no sin nor was any deceit found in his mouth and while being reviled he did not revile in return while suffering he other than no threats, but he kept entrusting himself to him who judges righteously did it go instruction here is 24 and he himself bore our sins in his body on the cross so that we might die to send and live to righteousness for by his wounds. You were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep. But now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls. So we can book In this passage today looking verse 11 beloved church. I'm talking to you now just like Peter as aliens and strangers we were straight but now we are under the guardianship of Our Shepherd in the guardian of our souls, right? It's a great place to be in to be an alien in stranger because we have a great shepherd and a great guardian over our souls so Part of the Christians calling include suffering my magnet verse and I I never do this, but I want to bring in my sign. It's right over my desk, you know second Timothy 3:12 for those who desire to live Godly will suffer persecution. If you follow in Christ footsteps, you are guaranteed promised not maybe guaranteed 100% going to suffer persecution. Think about that Christianity. You know, it's coming. It's a promise for us and you don't see many. I mean it's in my office, but you don't see many refrigerator magnets like that, you know people slapping those up. Yeah, we're going to suffer persecution because we love God, but it's going to happen. But why? Why should we have to do that? In the same way. It says here that we are to follow in his footsteps because he left an example for us think of how you know, my kids are bigger now. I think some of might have bigger feet than I do. But you know, you can walk in the snow the leader would make the trail and then the other person would walk in behind. It's much easier for the Jesus was the Forerunner, right? He walked in the snow. He did the hard work. He did all the work matter fact. We just get to walk in those footsteps nice and easy, but there is suffering on that path, right? There's absolutely suffering.
Let's look back to Isaiah.
Because this is what this is quoting and will end right here will end in Isaiah.
Isaiah 52:13 will start there.
And I know this morning. I've given you some instruction Peter has given us instructions. I should say how to live the Christian Life how to forsake and turn away from the fleshly lusts that wage war against our soul took to move towards good to just surrender to the government when it's okay to do so but to not obey the government when they try to overthrow, you know God's command and they try to overthrow anything that were commanded in his word to do then it's okay to obey so maybe it's a lot to unpack but I think it's great that we end on this passage here. And even in 1st Peter we end with that Christ is our example humble and exalted Christ through this together real slowly. And 52 Isaiah 52:13 behold. My servant will prosper he will be high and lifted up in greatly exalted. Just as many were astonished that you do my people. So his appearance was marred more than any man in his form more than the sons of men. Does he will sprinkle many nations Kings will shut their mouths on a count him for what had not been told them. They will see so no words were spoken. His actions are going to show them exactly who he is. And what they had not heard they will understand who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed. For he grew up before him like a tender shoot and like a root out of the parts ground. He has no stately form or Majesty that we should look upon him. Jesus wasn't handsome. You know, it's hard for us to grasp that concept cuz we think the Lord is beautiful and he is absolutely beautiful in everything that he is but he's not this handsome. You know, LL Bean model is it says here? There's no stately former Majesty that we should look upon him nor appearance that we should be attracted to him there. He was despised in forsaken of men. Look what he went through for us a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief and like one from whom men hit their face. He was despised and we did not esteem him surely our griefs. He himself bore and our sorrows he carried yet. We ourselves esteemed him stricken smitten of God in Afflicted. Remember they thought surely this man must have sent Shirley did something wrong but not one time in his life. He will finish through this through for our transgressions. That's my sin.
He was crushed for our iniquities. That's my sin. The chastening of our well-being fell upon him. My Punishment he took And by his scourging we were healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray each one of us has turned to his own way, but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on him. So it was the Lord's plan that all of sin would fall on Jesus on his son.
He was oppressed and he was afflicted yet. He did not open his mouth. This is the example he set for us like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheet that is silent before its shearers. So he did not open his mouth by oppression in judgment. He was taken away and for his generation who considered that he was cut out of the land of the living for the transgressions of my people to whom the stroke was do it was my punishment was our punishment Church. His grave was assigned with the wicked men. reviews with a rich man in his death because he had done no violence nor was there any deceit in his mouth? But the Lord was pleased to crush him putting him to grief if he would render himself as a guilt offering he will see his offspring. He will prolong his days in the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in his hand the Forerunner for he did all these things so we can live in this context we can live in this Freedom that he set us free from What's 11 as a result of the anguish of his soul? He will see it and be satisfied. By his knowledge the righteous one. My servant will justify the mini. And he will bear their iniquities. That's my sin. Therefore I will allot him a portion with the great and he will divide the booty with the strong because he poured out himself to death and was numbered with the transgressors yet. He himself bore the sin of many and interceded for the transgressors transgressors. So why Church why? Submit to these certain things that Peter is telling us to do. That's why because he interceded and he took my sin and nailed it once all of it and said it's done right isn't it wasn't at his last words. It is finished sin is atone for its paid for by this propitiation that perfect sacrifice this perfect demon. He paid it. so that
our Behavior can be excellent among the Gentiles. And our our actions Our Lives will glorify God. So the others will come to see and glorify God. Where to submit ourselves for his sake would honor all people of the Brotherhood fear God honor the king be submissive to our masters be respectful with a stopper. Even unjustly times just like he did completely unjustly never open his mouth one time, you know, and I think that's everybody always ask that question to me. What do you think that Jesus's biggest Temptation was just too that I said, I think just to say you're done, you know at that time just to say you're all did you know cuz he had the power and authority in the knowledge to do so, but he was obedient to the plan of his father right completely. movie called to this purpose Church So let's pray.
