The addiction of social media

How many of you this morning looked at social media as the first thing when you wake up?
People use an average of 6.6 social media platforms a month
Facebook
Youtube
Whatsapp
Instagram
Wechat
Messenger
Twitter
Mentions
Tiktok
Linked in
Telegram
The average person spends 2.5hrs a day on social media
The problem with social media is it leaves us struggling with all the passions in our souls
The feeling of being dirty
The feeling that this is just draining the life out of you
Some of these awakened passions are:
Hypocrisy
Envy
Fear
insecurity
Hatred
Anger
Strife
Sexual Immorality
Idolatry
Witchcraft
Outbursts of anger
Dissensions
Factions
Lawlessness
Galatians 5:19–21 (NASB 2020)
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The first danger I would love to talk about today we face with social media is that it awakens the passion of hypocrisy
Matthew 6:1–6 (NASB 2020)
“Take care not to practice your righteousness in the sight of people, to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, so that they will be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your charitable giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
“And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they will be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But as for you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
This has its roots in the desire to be loved and accepted by people
Hypocrisy has a very sinister aspect:
It is our inability to love ourselves and to think people will not love the person they see
The desire to be worshipped
The fear to be rejected
The desire to deceive
