“15 Then he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” - Mark 16:15
Out of the 4 gospels written, no book appeals to Gentiles more than the book of Mark.
Travel was not a normal lifestyle choice for a Palestinian of that time. People would rarely travel far beyond where they lived.
Jesus commanded his disciples to “Go into all the world and preach to all creation.”
“Jesus loves the little children.”
The gospel is meant to be shared to all people.
The ministries here today are rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
local, statewide, national, and global.
“8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” - Acts 1:8
The disciples would not need to wait much longer. The Holy Spirit would empower the church to carry the gospel forward.
The locations in this verse represent the geographical broadening of the apostles mission, from Israel’s capital, to the land of Israel, and to the entire world.
Jerusalem (Ch. 1-7)
Judea (Ch. 8)
Surrounding Nations (9-28)
“Power” (dynamis) Can refer to power displayed in miracles or the ability of God to carry out His purposes. God will enable the apostles to accomplish His work, whenever and wherever it is.
“Witnesses” The apostles are called to testify about Christ- to proclaim the reality of His death and Resurrection as well as His kingdom and lordship.
Until the disciples had met the risen Lord for themselves, and they were truly convinced of his Resurrection, they had no gospel to preach, and so it was fitting that only now they should receive the great commission.
Why we formed the missions committee...
Why missions?
Jesus is risen.
We have a story to share.
The kingdom of God is at hand.
