God

JN 13:18 I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But it is to fulfill the scripture, ‘The one who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ 19 I tell you this now, before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am he. 20 Very truly, I tell you, whoever receives one whom I send receives me; and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.” 21 After saying this Jesus was troubled in spirit, and declared, “Very truly, I tell you, one of you will betray me.”

22 The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he was speaking. 23 One of his disciples—the one whom Jesus loved—was reclining next to him; 24 Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking. 25 So while reclining next to Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?”

26 Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot. 27 After he received the piece of bread, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, “Do quickly what you are going to do.” 28 Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him.

31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. 32 If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once.

33 Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’

This was Jesus’s last moments with his disciples so he wanted to leave them with truth and important lessons

He has washes the disciples feet commissions them to go and serve demonstrating the the greates among them needs to be the bigest servant

He reveals his betrayer( Drama)

Jesus gives them a new commandment

Key Verse John 13:34-35

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

when ever you look at scripute its important tthat you ask these questions. What did they hear? What did this mean to them? What does it mean for us?

this wasnt the first time jesus talked about commandments, There where plenty of times when jesus was questioned what is the greatest commandment. And he always said that it was to Love God and love your neighbor as yourself

What he was telling the was a upgrade to the 2nd commandment. It was no longer to your as yourself, but to love others as i have loved you!

This changes the game becuase jesus was about to give up his life for them

He tells them this knowing that they won’t understand it until they see him walk it out.

*** Side Note***Quite often God will start preparing you for season that you arent even in yet, he will start preparing your heart to walk in what your going to be doing in the future now. So dont waiste your waiting season, dont waiste your preparing season . You to be ready to go and do what he has called you to do when its go time.

The disciples would have no idea what this until after there masters death and resurrection

What did this statment mean for us?

Sacrificial love became the standard

This Love with cost you something

affectinate, familiar, enduring, familar, romatic, playful, obsessive, self, sacrifical= Agape

Thats not biblical? You cant tell someone you love them but you refuse to serve them.

Sacrificial love for others is the evidence we follow Jesus

when i read this the holy spirit highlighted this aspect of “proving” like there needed to be evidence of our faith?

Evidence defition :The available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid.

Why did he say this? i belive he knew what would happen after his death , he knew people would rise up and claim to t be his disciples but not exhbit his charicter and nature

He new people use his name for gain and populairty and create enviorments of abuse and church hurt.

Why was it important? Becuase yes there has been this internal work And the bibile says in mathew that we arnet to judge people but we can judge their fruit.

Unfournatly Christianity has been one of the only places that make claim, but has no evidence.

Main Point : The indicator of a Christian is the way we treat others.

This is the direction that i belive the lord is taking us as a church and as indivisuals

I dont believe the lord is taking us off the path that we have been traveling ,we are just moving to a different gear.
