Intro

Anyone ever been lost in the Dark before?
Darkness is disorienting.
Darkness with no light source, is impossible to navigate.
The Darker it is, the easier it is to identify the Light.
This week and next week we are going to look at a few of the names that are given to God in Isaiah 9.

2 The people walking in darkness

have seen a great light;

a light has dawned

on those living in the land of darkness.

3 You have enlarged the nation

and increased its joy.,

The people have rejoiced before you

as they rejoice at harvest time

and as they rejoice when dividing spoils.

4 For you have shattered their oppressive yoke

and the rod on their shoulders,

the staff of their oppressor,

just as you did on the day of Midian.

5 For every trampling boot of battle

and the bloodied garments of war

will be burned as fuel for the fire.

6 For a child will be born for us,

a son will be given to us,

and the government will be on his shoulders.

He will be named

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

7 The dominion will be vast,

and its prosperity will never end.

He will reign on the throne of David

and over his kingdom,

to establish and sustain it

with justice and righteousness from now on and forever.

The zeal of the LORD of Armies will accomplish this.

A counselor is someone who walks along side of you and helps you discover a better way.

Romans 11:33–36 ESV
33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! 34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” 35 “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Translation: God has given us his word which is filled with his wisdom and knowledge.

A counselor’s job is to help you make changes, not make the changes for you.

God doesn’t just have the wisdom you need for your situation, he has the power to overcome it.

Mighty God has the power to change your situation, and to change you.

1 Peter 5:6–7 ESV
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
