A God sent Leader
A God sent Leader
Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”
INTRODUCTION....
INTRODUCTION....
Mark 4:9 “And He said to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”” Jesus’ words...
The Paul states over in Romans 10:13–15 “For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!””
(repeat)... And how shall they preach unless they are sent?
Talk, Preach
Being sent by God, means a whole lot....
But before Paul uttered these words....thousands of years before him, Moses also knew that a leader of God’s people Had to be, Must of been, sent by God...
Because dealing with God’s people is not an easy task. It takes certain strength, wisdom and knowledge to carry this task. And this wisdom and strength and knowledge comes from the Lord himself....
What did Soloman ask for when God told him, I will give whatever you want…Soloman said wisdom, to rule over YOUR people.......TALK, PREACH....
Now let me clear something up....in case it crossed your mind....I am not questioning anyone’s calling.....TALK...
But in my opinion, if you observe all things, you can get a good idea of God sent and man sent.....
In my opinion…a God sent preacher will have a love for the word of God and want to spread the word, every chance he gets....not for fame or fortune but for the spreading of the good news...
In my opinion…A God sent Pastor will have the love for the word and for a deep love for God’s people....
A love that will drive you to drive from San Antonio 3 or 4 times a week to take care of the flock.....CALL THE ROLL, TALK, PREACH....
And Macedonia that is what you have today…a God sent Leader....TALK, PREACH....
Now Moses, knew a little something about being sent by God.
He knew a little something about dealing with God’s people and what it would take to deal with them
And even with death right around the corner, Moses still had love for God’s people and he wanted to make sure that the next leader was God sent.....
Let’s dive into the text....
BODY....POINTS....
BODY....POINTS....
Let’s do a little history to see how we got to this point....
Tell the story of Moses....burning bush…plagues, red sea, ten commandments, disobeying God.....TALK, PREACH....
and if we look at verses, 12, 13 and 14..... Numbers 27:12–14 “Now the Lord said to Moses: “Go up into this Mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel. And when you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered. For in the Wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against My command to hallow Me at the waters before their eyes.” (These are the waters of Meribah, at Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.)”
we see Moses getting reminded that he will not enter the promise all he can do is just look at it....why?
because of his disobedience and sin towards God....TALK....
if I may pause for a minute....please do not let anyone or anything keep you from the promised land....TALK, PREACH....
Moses received this news and the news of his upcoming death and none of that bothered him....
After hearing of his coming fate, Moses does not try to talk God out of it or complain — his only concern seems to be for the congregation, for the people, not for himself
Matthew Henry states, We should concern ourselves, both in our prayers and in our endeavours, for the rising generation, that religion may be maintained and advanced, when we are in our graves.....TALK, PREACH....
A God sent leader is always worried the people, today and tomorrow.....
So with humility and a deep concern for the people of God, Moses makes a request to God...
Numbers 27:15–16 “Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,”
the lesson here is that true believers must pray for God to send a true leader to serve the people of God....
Moses prays to God, not to send an angel, but to set a man over the congregation, that is, to nominate and appoint one whom he would qualify and own as ruler of his people Israel. Before God gave this blessing to Israel, he stirred up Moses to pray for it:
Moses knew that no ordinary man could do this job. He had his dealings with and he knew what it took, God,
Yes, Macedonia you had your search committee and i am sure they prayed before, during the process…why? because knew God would send them the right person for the task of Pastoring Macedonia Baptist Church…TALK...
Like I said Moses knew no ordinary man could do this job on his own, he needed to be sent by God and empowered by God…why?
Because Moses knew the tasks at hand and knew the results if the wrong person got in there....
look at Numbers 27:17 “who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.””
let’s start at the end of the text....
Sheep without a shepherd are in constant danger; they face slim provisions of food and water, and they are never led to where they should be. God still wants His sheep to have a shepherd!......TALK, PREACH....
Without a shepherd, they would be wandering about, lost and scattered abroad. God must send a shepherd to continue leading His dear people to the promised land.....TALK, PREACH....
So once again Moses knew that the new leader would have to be God sent because he knew the people and he knew the task ahead of the new leader......look at the beginning verse 17.....
WORK TEXT, TALK, PREACH....
So Moses has shown us that the leader needs to be God sent because of the work ahead of the leader concerning the people...
Now we that once again God always has a ram in the bush....
Numbers 27:18 “And the Lord said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;”
God directs Moses to secure the succession to Joshua.
Up to this point, Joshua was mostly known by his servant-like association with Moses (Exodus 24:13).
Moses even changed Joshua’s name....Numbers 13:16 “These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua.”
In that 13th chapter Moses sent 12 spies into the promised land....the others were afraid of what they saw and didn’t want to go....fear is not a leader quality......TALK, PREACH...
But not Joshua....he was ready to fight and take what the Lord had promised the people....
This man God appoints to succeed Moses; a man in whom is the Spirit, the Spirit of grace. He is a good man, fearing God and hating covetousness, and acting from principle. He has the spirit of government; he is fit to do the work and discharge the trusts of his place. He has a spirit of conduct and courage; he had also the Spirit of prophecy.
Macedonia when this pulpit was vacant, the committee prayed for a God sent man....and God had a ram in the bush.....TALK, PREACH....
Pastor, keep preaching and teaching in season and out of season...
keep leading God’s people....feeding them the word....
because in my opinion you are A God sent leader.....
leading the people to Jesus....because Jesus is the way, truth and the life.....TALK, PREACH, CLOSE....
