2 Corinthians 5:1–10 KJV 1900
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Our Bodies are Temporary. (1-4)
Paul explains the body is simply a temporary dwelling place.
II. Our God is Good. (5-8)
Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord. (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Paul tells of his eagerness to be with the Lord. God is Faithful to be there when we are absent from the body.

SONG:
I MUST TELL JESUS ALL OF MY TRIALS
I CANNOT BEAR MY BURDENS ALONE
IN MY DISTRESS HE KINDLY WILL HELP ME
HE EVER LOVES AND CARES FOR HIS OWN.
III. Our Lives can make a Difference. (9-10)
Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Though we may be eager to be with the Lord, we should live our lives to please God. Our lives have a purpose. These are not our purposes. They will be reflected upon by the one who trusted us with these lives.
Someone has well said,
In reality, no one can preach our funeral, we preach our own funerals while we live.

Text: John 14:1-6
The 14th chapter of the Gospel of John has its setting in the Upper Room, where the disciples have eaten the Passover meal with Jesus.
Jesus knew exactly what the next few hours and days would bring, so He prepared His disciples to face the future without fear.
The words, “let not your hearts be troubled…” were addressed by Jesus to all the disciples, but we can rightly include ourselves in His audience, and apply them to our own hearts and lives.
As Christians, we’re exposed to many adversities, troubles, and even sorrow and suffering sometimes on a daily basis.
What this passage teaches us is that while we cannot prevent the many adversities and losses of life, we are able to find the strength and the power with the help of the Lord to get us through them.
Jesus suggest to us that we “trust in God; and trust also in Christ.”
He was actually saying, “You have trusted God, now it’s time to trust in Me!
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
We use the word “Heaven” in our conversation but few have given much thought to what Heaven is. Let me share with you some words of comfort about Heaven.
I. There is a Place Called Heaven.
Twice in this passage Jesus calls it a place. He made this statement as part of His Upper Room Discourse. During His earthly ministry Jesus preached many sermons and gave discourses to the multitudes on several occasions but in the Upper Room Discourse He took His disciples aside by themselves and taught them. His purpose was to prepare them for the fact that He would be leaving them.
In only a short time He was to be crucified. It would be the darkest hour that any of them would go through. It was then that Jesus uttered these words of comfort and hope about heaven.
He told them that He was going to prepare a place for them. It was in the Fathers house.
Heaven is not an unreal, indifferent place. It is a place as literal and concrete as the house you live in today.
“Many mansions” literally means “dwelling places”.
I knew a few things about Ms. Jensen myself. I’ve known her as a dear woman of God for many years. But she would rather discuss her Savior, all those that need to hear of Jesus, or just how good God had been to her. Today she is experiencing the real tangible presence of God.
II. This Heaven is Permanent.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
1 Peter 1:3-4
Patricia wasn’t afraid of permanent things.
Whether it was caring for little ones and giving them a sweet place to live or ministering in the nursery, or serving on the mission field. Patricia knew how to invest in the things that last forever - People.
III. Heaven is a Place you’ll experience personally.
1. People are there.
a. Elijah was taken up in a chariot.
b. Paul was taken up to Heaven – He called it Paradise
Jesus makes it personal because he is going to Prepare a place for those that have him as Savior.
Ms. Patty loved her Bible and even as her dementia was starting to take over she could always agree with “God is good isn’t he.”
IV. Heaven is a place of Holiness.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. - Rev 21:4
Heaven will be holy because of what is not there.
No sin No sickness No sorrow No pain No more death
V. Heaven is a Reward.
1. It is a reward for those who say “trust”Jesus.
2. It is a place of preparation. No one is there by accident.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. - John 3:3
Jesus said I am the way the Truth and the Life, no man cometh to the Father but by me. - vs 6
Understand that Ms. Jensen believed on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She placed her faith in him as little 7 year old girl. Through the heartache of broken relationships and pain of loss she never let go of her hold on Jesus. This is what the Apostle Paul would call finishing well. So often people will take Jesus for a test drive, or they will pop in an out of a religious experience or service but they do not simply trust Him with their whole eternity.
Christ wants to be all or nothing. There is no amount of work that will make it possible for you to go to heaven.
For by grace are you saved through faith: and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God not of works lest any man should boast. - Ephesians 2:89
VI. Heaven is a place where we will be reunited.
King David said at the death of his infant son, “You cannot come to me but I can go to you.”
Who is there?
1. Jesus is there.
2. Our Heavenly Father is there.
3. Those who have died in the Lord before us.
4. Those who will die in the Lord after us.
5. You will be there – if you made your reservation.
All of this was secured by one man His name is Jesus Christ.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. - II Corinthians 15:55-57
The words of Jesus that we have spoken today come from jesus as he was sitting with his disciples in the upper room. The last meal Jesus would eat before his death. In just hours Jesus would go to a Cross to be the Substitutionary atonement for your sins and mine. He would be buried and then rise again just three days later. You see I need not fear death because Jesus has handled the biggest problem I will ever face. Death.
You can have this same assurance if you will reject religion, good works, and spirituality as a poor replacement for Christ and cling to his completed work of Calvary. Claim the Gospel as yours today that you might be washed from your sin.
CONCLUSION
But you might remember what started this conversation around the table of the upper room that evening. It was the Words of our Savior.
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. John 13:34
VI. Heaven is an Expression of God’s Love.
Patricia believed in Christ and the Love of God changed him and he wanted others to know that same love he found in God for an old sinner.
