Jesus' Claim to Eternally God (John 8:31-59)

A. The Jewish leaders reject Jesus' claim to be free (John 8:33-36).
John 8:33–36 NKJV
They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
B. The Jewish leaders claim to be descendants of Abraham (John 8:37).
John 8:37 NKJV
“I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.
C. Jesus denies that the Jewish leaders are truly Abraham's children (John 8:39).
John 8:39 NKJV
They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.
D. Jesus denies that he is demon-possessed (John 8:49).
John 8:49 NKJV
Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.
E. Jesus promises that those who keep his word will "never see death" (John 8:51).
John 8:51 NKJV
Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”
F. The Jewish leaders accuse Jesus of blasphemy and seek to stone him (John 8:58-59).
John 8:58–59 NKJV
Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
G. Jesus escapes from the crowd (John 8:59).
John 8:59 NKJV
Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
