Luke 10:38-42

Martha accepts Jesus into her home

No enmity toward Jesus, rather warmth

Mary and Martha approach Jesus differently

Mary sits at His feet and listens to Him

Means to learn from Him

Martha worked hard to serve Him

“заботилась” is “distracted” in ESV (i.e. VERY BUSY)

One sister was doing the serving, while the other was being served

Jesus says only one of those activities was necessary

Martha decided to SERVE Jesus was necessary

Mary decided to LEARN from Him was necessary

Mary chose the ETERNAL option

“…will not be taken away”

APPLICATION: The Lord doesn’t NEED anything from us, but we NEED EVERYTHING from Him!

Starting with SALVATION itself

“Serve God, don’t sin” is good and right, but must be taught/lived knowing that we can’t earn Heaven

God must save, we can’t save ourselves

Continues in the Christian life

Martha wasn’t opposed to Jesus, she wanted to serve Him!

Ministry is not as important as fellowship with God

Preaching, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, PARENTING

Must remain at Jesus’ feet, then teach

Eternal vs temporal mentality
