Encouraging words from worship
Thank you’s to everyone that has helped for Christmas events
Ladies Christmas Tea tonight
Men’s Breakfast Sat the 9th
Night of Worship this Wednesday night
God gave us so much when He gave Jesus....Amen
What is a wonderful blessing you feel you have through the gift of Jesus?
SLIDE 2 “JESUS IS OUR PEACE”
We are having Communion the Lord’s Supper today and John chapters 13-16 gives quit amazing setting and description of so much Jesus and His disciples discussed during this Passover meal
Jesus gives them so much instruction and encouragement throughout these chapters plus everything He would be for them......and us in the Holy Spirit
As Jesus is talking in John chapter 14 verse 26 about the Helper / The Holy Spirit whom the Father would send …in His name. And that The Holy Spirit would teach and bring to their remembrance all that He discussed with them at this Passover meal
Jesus after promising the Holy Spirit to come then in the very next verse said I leave this with with you
SLIDE 3
John 14:27 NASB95
27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
This very much shows the two are connected......meaning the Holy Spirit and Peace
It now reveals a wholeness in our relationship with God
That we are free to communicate with God and be in His presence
SLIDE 4 “KNOW JESUS KNOW PEACE”
Think about it this way
Peace comes with being reconciled with God......and the only way to be reconciled to God is through Jesus our Lord and Savior
Salvation comes through the Jews as Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well......in His conversation with her revealing that He was the Living Water in which she would never thirst again.....Jesus born Jewish makes Israel very special to us salvation does come through the Jews
In fact this carries into our message for today being that you could be around the Jewish culture or say be in Israel and probably could not go a day without being greeted with the word shalom - the Hebrew word for peace.
SLIDE 5
PEACE
Shalom - welfare, prosperity, wholeness
absence of hostility
If I were to greet you and say “shalom”..... I would be speaking these things over your life.....welfare, prosperity, wholeness and the absence of hostility
Just as last week we saw that all hope was promised and fulfilled through Jesus, now today the same is all peace was promised and fulfilled through Jesus
This brings us to 3 points that stand out form having shalom peace
SLIDE 6
PEACE
Peace as the Absence of Hostility
What greater gift through Jesus could you ever have .....amen
This is why the Lord impressed on me to list as number 1
For sure we would have two biblical figures that stand out maybe more than others
Joseph and David........we first have to be reminded they looked for the promise of Messiah Jesus, believed that and that was feeding (to say) their internal sense of peace
Joseph - described
David - described
They both pursued, believed and trusted God, hoped in the promise of Messiah
An amazing thing to notice........is their peace spread over others around them
Even what Joseph’s brothers did in evil God used for good for so many and then back on his brothers as well. He was a man of peace
SLIDE 7
1 Kings 5:3–4 NASB95
3 “You know that David my father was unable to build a house for the name of the Lord his God because of the wars which surrounded him, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet. 4 “But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor misfortune.
David seemed to be surrounded by hostility but still a man of peace. His son Solomon would find himself surrounded from every side by peace and rest because of the peace in the Lord his father David pursued.
Point number 2 of what we have in the peace through Jesus
SLIDE 8
PEACE
Peace as the Absence of Hostility
Peace in the Sense of Welfare
This is an other wonderful blessing we find how we are faring in walking with the Lord
SLIDE 9
Numbers 6:22–23 NASB95
22 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 23 “Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, ‘Thus you shall bless the sons of Israel. You shall say to them:
We have the famous blessing Moses was commanded by the Lord to have Aaron the first high priest speak over the people of Israel
SLIDE 10
Numbers 6:24–27 NASB95
24 The Lord bless you, and keep you; 25 The Lord make His face shine on you, And be gracious to you; 26 The Lord lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace.’ 27 “So they shall invoke My name on the sons of Israel, and I then will bless them.”
We see the blessings of God here and His peace He desires to cover us in our welfare and well being.
We are even encouraged to pray back these blessings over Jerusalem as you see here her welfare and well being described
SLIDE 11
Psalm 122:6–8 NASB95
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. 7 “May peace be within your walls, And prosperity within your palaces.” 8 For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, “May peace be within you.”
As we have been blessed with peace in Messiah who came through the Jews we can pray the blessing through Messiah back for Jerusalem
Now more than ever amen?
Our last point this morning

Peace in Relationships
In the Old Testament, the term “peace” is often used to describe a relationship characterized by friendship, care, loyalty, and love.
The term “peace” often appears in the inauguration of covenants which often formalized a relationship of love and loyalty
The nature of this peace is parallel with good things found in Scripture
