Matthew 11:28–30 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
As we reflect on this wonderful invitation in the Gospel of Matthew. We must understand that this was written during a time in when..
Jesus ministry when John the Baptist, Jesus cousin was unjustly imprisoned.
Cities the Jesus did many miracles in failed to repent and receive Christ
When Jesus Himself was called a glutton, winebibber, and a friend of publican and sinners.
The kingdom of heaven was suffering from violent forces attacking the King’s agenda.
Today we are experiencing similar problem.
People today are imprisoned by drug habits, debt, frustration.
Despite the miracles we see and experience people are turning away from God instead of repenting.
People are call good evil and evil good Isaiah 5:20
Isaiah 5:20 KJV 1900
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; That put darkness for light, and light for darkness; That put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Perilous times where the violent forces of darkness is are looking burden, overwhelm, and destroy our faith and steal our joy.
Have any body be overwhelm, frustrated, tired, weary?
I have Good news this morning these Word from the very mouth of God
Will empower you today with a renewed intimacy with God.
Will obtain better revelation of God’s instructions,
Will gain wisdom impact and influence your community for the Kingdom of God.
Let’s examine the passage..
Come unto Me! Gives Intimacy, Instructions, and Impact
After Jesus gave his state of the union address regarding John the Baptist imprisonment and the horrific spiritual condition during His time . Which likewise relevant for our time...
Jesus answer was a simple Come to me; I was a same word he shared with his Matt 4:19
Matthew 4:19 KJV 1900
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Action word, imperative with an exclamation mark… In other word in not just a casual request it is a command and commitment.
Life and Death is dependent upon this request; life a child needing to get out of street, like a firefighter giving instruction to a persons in a burning building.
Are you in trouble, are you tired, are you burned out with life, drugs, alcohol, ungodly relationships, going through the motions, past hurt, mental anguish, traditions, and religion?
Get away from it come to me.
He did said come to anyone else except for Him.
The LORD Jesus Christ is the source everything else is just resources.
The Pastor, the church, counselor, addictions programs, educations, and healthcare care professionals are excellent resources but they are not the source.
When we come to Christ we get intimacy with God!
Intimacy is a closeness that gift is Comfort, joy, and peace being around someone. James 4:8
James 4:8 KJV 1900
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Intimacy makes it easy to communicate (commune) and open up to others. John 15:15
John 15:15 KJV 1900
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
James 2:21–23 KJV 1900
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Friends can rest around each, friends can be themselves, friends share things with others that they do not share with others.
Friend is covenant Word (Jonathan and Davis)
Rest means- to make to cease, to stop or hinder from a thing, c. gen., Il.; ἀν. τινά τινος to give him rest or relief from a thing
Take my yoke and learn of me: Instruction
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. A yoke is used to make animals walk together.
A yoke is a harness used by oxen and other animals to ease the work of hauling a load1. In the Bible, the yoke is a symbol of servitude21. It can refer to the oppression of the Israelites by the Egyptians, or the bondage of sin2. Jesus also uses the yoke as a metaphor for his teachings, inviting his followers to take his yoke upon them and learn from Him.
A Yoke is learning tool— God’s learning tool is gentle and easy. His rod of correction at the time may seem hard but it will help in the long run it give us freedom, peace, and comfort.
The enemy yoke may seem easy at first but at the end is destruction and bondage. ( one smoke of drug, one night stand, and one day with the wrong crowd).
God’s Instruction will help us to impact our world for the kingdom of God. Impact
. Impact means to have a strong effect on someone or something:
Noah followed God’s instruction
Abraham followed God’s instruction
Like we should follow God’s instruction to impact our world.
2 Chronicles 16:9 KJV 1900
9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Let’s be the people that Come to Him for Intimacy, Instruction and Impact!!!
