Time Management
Time Management
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,
redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Time management is a spiritual discipline as well as a quality for business, school, and life in general.
The word redeem means to make the most of.
We are all guilty of wasting time. However, that does not excuse us.
“Lord, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am.
Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah
C. S. Lewis understood this: “If you read history you will find that the Christians who did the most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.”
Does this mean that we can not rest. NO
In fact the Bible teaches the exact opposite. In Gen.2.2
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
But, like all things there must be a balance. To much rest and we become lazy, to little and we get burnout.
Rest is essential. But so is time management.
God worked for 6 days and rested on the seventh. Technically, this rest was not one of recovery like you our I need. God was not exhausted after creation. HIs rest was one of completion. Yet, you and I need physical recovery.
Our text in Ephesians says that we should redeem our time, not as fools but as wise. Thus we must be wise with our time.
Thomas Edison did not believe that a man needed a bed. He stated that it was a a heritage from our cave days. He only slept for 3-4 hours a day. Those times were spent mostly in his recliner. He also required those that worked with him to maintain the same regiment as he.
Yet, this type of schedule is difficult on the body.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Jesus gave rest to the disciples and even He himself would find a time to rest.
And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
I. Do what matters the most.
I. Do what matters the most.
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
II. Don’t forget God.
II. Don’t forget God.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
III. Don’t be lazy.
III. Don’t be lazy.
Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise,
For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.
IV. Schedule your time.
IV. Schedule your time.
The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
V. Don’t forget to time to renew and seek God.
V. Don’t forget to time to renew and seek God.
A. Before making a big decision.
Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:
B. After a trying time.
Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught.
And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.
C. When He needed quite.
From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden.
