Typical Greeting Stuff
Alright, this will be the last time you’ll hear me say this for quite a while…but go ahead and turn in your bibles to Philippians 4. Tonight, we are finishing our series through Paul’s letter to the Philippians and overall, I think it’s been a great series for us.
There have been a lot of topics that we have covered, and of course, they’ve all been centered on Christ…focused on the gospel…and convicting for us to live our lives in response to Jesus.
I say right now: our ministry has changed and grown a TON this past semester. And I just want to let you know…there’s more to come.
Not only do I believe that God has so much more in store for this ministry…but just through a planning perspective as your pastor…I’m telling, we’ve got more planned in the future. More opportunities for discipleship, more opportunities for connection, more opportunities to serve.
And the reason for those things…is found in passage like what we are about to read. The reason we want to provide those things…is because when we open our passage tonight, we are going to see that we as disciples should have those things in our lives…we as disciples should have some things in common that we are all about...
We as disciples should all have similar things in our lives that are impacted by the Gospel.
We’ve hit so many aspects of the gospel and how it plays out in your life over the past 12 weeks…but tonight, we are going into the lightning round. We are gonna hit one thing after another that should be different in your life because of your believe in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Tonight, we are going to see aspects we’ve sort of discussed and some we haven’t…but it’s all for the purpose of evaluating this...
Everything we are looking at tonight should cause all of you to evaluate and answer this one question...
How much has the gospel saturated your life?
What we are seeing in this passage, is an example set by the Philippians, as to what it looks like for the Gospel to Saturate every aspect of your life. So let’s get into the passage and start looking at it. We are going to start in verse 10, because I didn’t hit that last week, and jump down to 14. Here we go.
10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.
14 Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. 18 I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. 19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you. 22 All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household.
23 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
So here we are, Paul is applauding the Philippians for their partnership in the gospel. You see that there in verse 15. He’s applauding them for this partnership…and he’s speaking of the ways they have carried out this partnership.
Let me make this clear.
The Philippians believe in the gospel of Christ.
And it’s not just that they believe in the Gospel…but it’s that they have allowed the Gospel to take over their lives…to saturate their lives...
And because of that, they have taken certain actions in working with Paul.
And the part I want to isolate and identify…are the actions they have taken because their lives are saturated with the gospel.
Meaning…I want to reverse engineer this. I want to look at the actions they are taking, the things they are doing…and say “oh, that’s what it looks like to have my life saturated by the gospel”…therefore, “if my life is saturated by the gospel…i should see these myself doing those things as well.”
If you’re not tracking with that, let me give one last illustration before we get into our points for tonight.
