Have you ever been in a situation that seemed so dark?
Story of hiking down the mountain in Kingman when the lights gave out, and the only way I got out was because of the moonlight reflecting off my car, the light prevailed through the trees
Today we are going to look at a passage that is not usually preached on during Christmas. But it talks about being in the darkest moments that light prevailed.
Matthew 2:13–15 NIV
When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
Can you imagine that moment that Joseph had, thinking everything is going good, and than bam there is a people looking to kill this child that you just saw come into this world.
I mean these 3 guys just left all these gifts and things look to being amazing and then you get the news that Herod wants to go after the Messiah.
Let me ask you this, have you ever been in a place in your life that things seem to be going good and then what seems like out of nowhere
you get a medical diagnosis
a loved one passed away
lost a job
unexpected repair that cost more then the car
Maybe you were forced to leave where you were
In the moment it might seem like the world is crashing down on you,
But, often we do not see the whole story
Looking back through the darkest moments of my life, I can see God working, at the time maybe not so much, but later on in my life I can.
Story of my dad passed away and the way it happened
He was about to go through the most horrible death, but God saved Him from that fate.
It took 8 months for me to see that , and be thankful for the work God did in those moments
It’s in the what seems to be the darkest moments that God often works to mightiest.
As Jesus hung on the cross it was really dark
The disciples in the following days were in the midst of darkness
But in the midst of that darkness God was working a mighty work that would end up saving all of us from an eternity in Hell
Maybe right now you are in that dark time and it seems like there is no way out, like when I was trying to get out of that forest I had to look for that light
Maybe we are in the way and need to open our eyes and look for that glimmer of light
God has Not left, in these moments is when we need to cry out and seek Him even more
John 8:12 NIV
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Maybe it’s time to really start really taking our faith to the next level and really seeking God more and more, and letting our old self go, and holding on to the new creation that you are in Christ.
