Luke 12:1-12

Theme: Jesus Teaching
Key verse: v.32
59 verse; 1,407 words
Grade level: 6.0
Outline:
I. Be careful... lest Satan hinder you. Verses 1-12
II. Be confident... God will not fail you. Verses 13-34
III. Be consistent... in preparing for Christ's return. Verses 35-59
Here is some THINGS saved people don’t need to fear:

I. Hypocrites. vs.1-3

People will be exposed. v.1
1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
leaven” - an ingredient that makes bread rise.
It requires adding it to something already worked.
It requires heating up the items.
It requires time.
Plots will be exposed. V.2
2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
It all comes out in time.
All the participants are named.
3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
All the “prayer requests” are spoken to everyone.
All the private conversations are publicized.

II. Hell. vs.4-5

The biggest threat of people. v.4
4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
We face the threat of death constantly.
We face the thought of death conveniently.
The biggest neglect of people. v.5
5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
The punishment of sin is the path of conviction of a sinner.
The payment of sin is the path to conversion of a sinner.

III. Help. vs.6-7

How the Lord helps his creatures. v.6
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
How well the Lord knows the new creatures. v.7
7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Illustration - In the feeding of the 5,000 (Vance Havner)
There was a bread problem.
There was a budget proposed.
There was a boy presented.
There was a bounty provided.

IV. Hope. vs.8-12

The confession of a believer. vs.8-9
8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
The sin that overtakes a sinner. v.10
10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
The defense of the martyrs. vs.11-12
11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
Illustrated in Acts 7.

Conclusion:

Notice what God told Israel about their future:
Deuteronomy 28:65–67
65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:
67 In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
It is of no wonder God gave…
Hebrews 12:2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
