The Finale
The Finale
Make every effort to come to me soon;
for Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
Only Luke is with me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service.
But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
When you come bring the cloak which I left at Troas with Carpus, and the books, especially the parchments.
Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.
Be on guard against him yourself, for he vigorously opposed our teaching.
At my first defense no one supported me, but all deserted me; may it not be counted against them.
But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion’s mouth.
The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
Erastus remained at Corinth, but Trophimus I left sick at Miletus.
Make every effort to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, also Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brethren.
The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.
Intro-
Who has like our study of 2 Timothy?
When you are looking for a final episode in a series, if you are an avid fan you want it to be the most powerful one.
For the longest time I did not think these last verses were that powerful.
I would think that last week’s passage might have been.
USE THE PICTURE
Go over our vision of disciple-making!
Paul on his death bed is all about making disciples!
Fellowship
A few observations about this passage:
This journey of discipleship is impossible without authentic relationships.
This journey of discipleship is impossible without authentic relationships.
We were not created to live our Christian life on an island.
We need each other.
Paul who was the master disciple maker (besides Jesus) needed relationships.
He needed others around him to finish well.
2 Timothy 1:8 “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,”
Notice people left Paul.
Demas: Why - He loved the world
Some left not because they left the faith they just were not there presently
Alexander the Coppersmith
Notice all the people who were with Paul at the end.
Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
Erastus remained at Corinth, but Trophimus I left sick at Miletus.
Make every effort to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, also Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brethren.
Word
2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.”
Or maybe 2 Timothy 3:16–17 “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
Multiplication
Or what about 2 Timothy 2:2 “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
Witnessing
And a very popular verse we have looked at 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.”
2 Timothy 4:2 “preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.”
2 Timothy 4:17 “But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion’s mouth.”
Application:
Here are some problems with application:
I am going to be a better Christian
I am going to do something amazing today
I am going to love my family better.
I am going to read the entire Bible this week

Communion Time-
When Jesus was close to finishing his mission, Dying on the cross for all of mankind he was sitting with his disciples. He said this:
While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.”
And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
And He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
“Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
And we are going to do this in a second. But as we do it today I want us to reflect on what Jesus has done for us by reflecting on the gospel.
We are closing up on 2 Timothy today and while we have done this
