God the Son or the Son of God?
Does the NT call Jesus the son of God, or God the Son?
38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Gen 1 tells the story of creation
created together in the image of God and both blessed.
Both given dominion over created things
Both told to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth.
Given every herb bearing seed, and every tree on the face of the earth is theirs for the taking without qualification; they have dominion over all.
God looks at his creation and declares it very good.
Gen 2 is a retelling, a zeroing in on the on the most important details of Gen 1.
much of what was presented in Ch 1 is reexamined.
Man is made of the dust of the ground - without the woman
Adam looks and finds no help meet.
Eve is created separately from a rib.
No mention of the dominion or authority
God plants a garden and commands Adam to dress it and to keep it.
Man is now a steward of God’s things
Furthermore, the man is told that not every tree belongs to him.
There is one tree that he may not eat from, and if he does he will surely die.
While in Chapter 1 God declares everything good....
In Chapter 2 there is one thing God declares is not good.
“It is not good that man should be alone”
Lofty language in the first chapter - blessed, dominion and authority, the world belongs to them.
IN the 2nd chapter man is charged with submission. Not said to be blessed. Made of the dust of the ground. Made steward of the garden and his is alone.
Adam is in many ways a divided man!
There is a template of comparison and contrast used throughout the Bible for Adam and Jesus.
In understanding something about Adam - more is revealed about the ministry Jesus Christ.
Adamic Christology - This approach to the study of scripture.
Two Clashing Identities:
Man made in the image of God
Man the author of sin
No repentance is ever recorded of Adam or Eve - Only blame.... even of God....

Blessing passed on to the next born, Enoch.

Ishmael - Birth was an act of man’s will.
Isaac
20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.
21 But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.”
Take they sone, thine only sone Isaac...” When God speaks of Abrahams decendants Ishmael is not considered.
Isaac Has Two Sons
Esau and Jacob
Aaron and Moses
David the youngest.
Favor found in the youngest while the firstborn is flawed....!

Why did Paul call Jesus, “The firstborn of every creature”?
There is a new firstborn!
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.
17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
The first man Adam’s sin was fundamental disobedience
Being a man - tried to make himself God
Lack of submission to God.
When Jesus came, His beginnings were humble.
Dominion - through - submission is the message of Jesus to His disciples!
It is the message repeated by the early church.
Jesus set right - what Adam messed up!
When grace changes the heart, submission out of fear changes to submission out of love, and true humility is born.
