Jesus is Better than the angels

Hebrews opens up with God speaking

God has spoken in portions and in many ways. whether it be speaking directly, by a prophet or messenger (angel) thru writing on the wall, burning bush, or even a talking donkey. God has spoken but the Hebrew writer then moves on to the last days and note what he says.

In the last days he has spoken to us in His son...

heir of all things

made the world

exact representation of his nature

sitting at the right hand of God after he made purification for sins

Hebrews 1:4 “having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.”

seems to indicate that the name son is the name he inherited after his suffering death and resurrection

HEIR OF ALL THINGS

Heb. 2:5-9 crowned with glory and all things in subjection under his feet

When God enthroned Him as king he became heir of all things

THE REASON HE IS BETTER THAN THE ANGELS IS BECAUSE HE HAS A BETTER NAME

what name you ask? Son to illustrate that he uses the kingly passage from Psalm 2:7 ““I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” this is a kingly passage that shows us as the son he is the anointed king

2 Samuel 7:14 ““I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men,”

HE IS KING (1:6-9) no angel could say that. v.6 he is the firstborn

SON OF GOD = THE ONE GOD HAS CHOSEN AS KING John 1:49 “Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.”” Matthew 16:16 “Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.””

note only is he king but he is the firstborn - preeminent one, the highest of the kings the angels worship and pay homage to Him

HE IS BETTER THAN THE ANGELS

THE ANGELS WORSHIP HIM

unlike the angels who are flame, ministering spirits, v. 14 the Son has throne that is forever and ever why is he enthroned as king forever…because Jesus hated lawlessness and loved righteousness. He obeyed even when he had to suffer Christ obeyed. He is above all others that holds especially true to the angels Hebrews 2:5 “For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking.”

HE IS THE ETERNAL CREATOR (2,10)

quote is from Psalm 102:25–27 ““Of old You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. “Even they will perish, but You endure; And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will be changed. “But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end.” the SON will even outlast the creation of which the angels are a part of. Colossians 1:16 “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.”

the creation will be rolled up, changed, come to an end.

the angels have never been chosen or enthroned or created anything but they are ministering spirits Hebrews 1:14 “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?” think about all the angels encounters with men...

communicate with Abraham and rescue lot

kill the first born to set the Israelites free

delivered Daniel and his three friends form the fiery furnace

messengers to Mary Zachariah and Elizabeth

attended to jesus after temptations

I believe they are still ministering spirits according to this passage and they are ministering spirits to those that inherit salvation, us.

LASTLY HE HAS A BETTER MESSAGE

if the angels message was unalterable and disobedience to their message was punishable what about the message of the Son who was anointed king, who created all, who the angels worshiped…should we listen to Him?

CHRIST HAS BEEN ENTHRONED AS KING OVER ALL…that is the point of Acts 2:36 Peters sermon its that confession that we make when we are baptized into Christ Romans 10:9 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;” 1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:15 “which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,”

JESUS IS OUR KING AND WE MUST OBEY HIM - the bedrock of Christianity - will you listen to Him, will you confess Him, Will you be obedient to HIM?
