We talk about the “unpardonable sin”
What is it? Can a believer commit it?

The Text: Mark 3:28-30

The big question: How do we blaspheme against the Holy Spirit?
We must look at the context in which Jesus spoke this truth

The Context

Mark 3:22–27 “And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.”

The Question?

What constitutes an act of Blasphemy of the the Holy Spirit? …remember, answer the question from the text
There are 4 common views, discussed by Andy Naselli, https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/essay/the-unpardonable-sin/
Commit a REALLY BAD sin—pretty easy to disprove by examples
Assert what is false about the Spirit—a rather common view in the early church; does not get specific enough
Attribute Spirit-empowered miracles to Satan—some think this could have only occurred under the ministry of Jesus Himself

Decisively Reject Clear Truth the Spirit Revealed about Jesus by Attributing His Mighty Works to Satan

The Conclusion

Only a non-believer can commit this sin; once done, God hardens the sinners heart so that he will never receive the message of the Gospel
