Read Hebrews 1:1-3
1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

The writer of Hebrews uses this to open his book

in ages past God spoke to his people through the prophets and the fathers
Abraham
Moses
Issac
Jacob
God made himself known to his people through the fathers and the prophets
This is the story of the old testtemant
All the way back to the beginning of the bible
God speaks with is people
Pre fall and post fall
Look back to Genesis 3:14-15
14 The Lord God said to the serpent,
“Because you have done this,
cursed are you above all livestock
and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.”
God speaks and pronounces a curse on the serpent but he also acknowledges
An offspring of the women will be needed to bruise or crush the head of the serpent
In this moment the perfect relationship between God and man is broken and something is needed to repair the relationship
But notice what God does after this
21 And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
God takes their fig leaves off and makes them Clothes
God provides fro Adam and Eve
So much foreshadowing here of what happens at Christmas
The rest of the old testament is a story of God calling his people to himself and his people rebeling
God will speak to his people through Moses
Moses will give the law to Gods people
15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. 16 If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. 17 But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, 18 I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. 19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, 20 loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
God tells them how to live
gives them a land
makes a people out of these slaves
but they will turn away
16 And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers. Then this people will rise and whore after the foreign gods among them in the land that they are entering, and they will forsake me and break my covenant that I have made with them. 17 Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide my face from them, and they will be devoured. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, ‘Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?’ 18 And I will surely hide my face in that day because of all the evil that they have done, because they have turned to other gods.
The people will turn to other gods
they will walk away from god
and he will turn away from them
“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return?’
