JO ERICKSON
DOCTRINE
With the advent season upon us, Christmas celebrations have already begun, decorations are up- and I’m happy to report that Lea did get her Christmas tree up- I know you were all concerned…
This time of year is a time of anticipation and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day. Much of the world’s focus is solely on that sweet little baby in the manger.
As we look at this week’s doctrine of God the Son, we remember that the child in the manger was the very same person who put the stars in the sky – including the very star which led the wise men from the east to come and worship Him.
Jesus- God the Son- willingly left the glories of heaven, left His Father’s side, & allowed Himself to take on human flesh. He submitted to the process of learning to walk, to talk, to eat on His own & He did it all out of His great love for us.
This week’s doctrine is God the Son. Jesus. I know that you all know intellectually the truth of this doctrine. You know that Jesus is God’s Son, sent by the Father to bring light and life to the world. God made flesh – Our Savior.
I also know that you have personally experienced His touch on your life in meaningful ways, or you wouldn’t be here less than 2 weeks before Christmas when there are so many other places you could be.
So instead of a more detailed doctrine talk, this morning we are going to take some time to simply worship Him.
When was the last time you really took time to bask in Jesus’ light?”
I hope you’ll do just that in these next few moments. There are some electric candles on the table, I’m going to turn off the overhead lights, and play some soft music. You can choose whatever posture you’d like. And we will just spend some time basking in the light of Jesus, the Light of the World.
After a few minutes of personal worship, we’ll move into our prayer time. But we’ll do that differently today too. Today we will just focus on praising and thanking our Lord. I love that we generally bathe every aspect of our ministry in prayer.
And certainly, we acknowledge that we depend on Him for every part of our work. But I think He knows that, and so today, just like the blind man, we will just simply worship Him- together.
So take several minutes alone to worship the Lord and I will lead us out together in a few minutes.
