Familiar with “children of God”
But what about “children of wrath?”
Q. What does the word “wrath” mean?
Anger
God: Opposition to evil
Let’s see how this fits in with this passage
Ephesians 2:1–3 (ESV)
1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
“In which you once walked”
Walking in sin
The path of destruction
“following the course of this world”
Culture/society value system
Who is in control of this?
“following the prince of the power of the air”
Satan
“The spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience”
Sin = disobedience
Society encourages us to have ungodly values
“Among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh”
An ungodly, selfish lifestyle
“ALL”
“Carrying out the desires of the body and the mind”
Doing what sounds good to us
Giving into all of our “wants”
“and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.”
The wrath of God
Punishment
Getting what we deserve
